Duties of Position: Provides support for students’ basic needs in the Hawks Care Resource Center through intake interviews and referrals to develop individual plans for students. Develops relationships and resources with internal and external partners to address food and housing insecurity within the advocacy and resource center model. Responsible for overseeing the overall management and distribution of Hawks Care resources to students. Partners with other campus stakeholders such as the Foundation, Financial Aid, Grants Office to develop programs and processes for the distribution of student support, including writing grant compliance and other high priority summaries. Collaborates closely with Academic Advisors, One Million Degrees, Women’s Program, Access Advocates, Manager of Student Wellness and Faculty Counselors to coordinate services for students. Troubleshoots and clarifies information about College policies, procedures as needed. Instructs students about the use of proactive resources.
Assists students with the identification of campus-based and community resources to support non-academic needs.
Provides culturally responsive support to students.
Supports the Manager of Hawks Care Resource Center to provide triage and coordination of referrals.
Responsible for the efficient processing and distribution of Hawks Care resources (funding, gift cards, technology needs) in collaboration with other campus partners.
Serve as the college’s designated Benefits Navigator per Public Act 102-1045
Develops and provides individualized action plans re: basic needs for new and continuing students.
Responsible for the case management of students referred to Hawks Care, in partnership with academic advisors to proactively monitor, manage and address students’ needs.
Provides individualized triage and advocacy to ensure that student referrals to community resources are addressed in a timely manner.
Develops and conducts workshops and events designed to assist students with better understanding and using key support services.
Conducts proactive outreach to campus and community-wide constituents to promote and share information about Hawks Care Resources to build a strong referral network.
Conducts outreach to students in support of retention-based programming efforts associated with case managed advising and Starfish re: non-academic needs.
Assist in the development of marketing campaigns with Communications Team, Manager of Hawks Care Resource Center and Marketing Services to write copy, develop events and promote Hawks Care services.
Documents all student interactions within Titanium for tracking and ensuring privacy of student records related to HIPAA and FERPA.
Develops and provides weekly, monthly and quarterly analyses of student utilization of services to the Hawks Care Manager.
Collaborates closely with Student Development Faculty Counselors and per established guidelines, facilitates referrals to Counselors, as appropriate.
Works with a variety of technology tools (i.e., Student Information System/Banner, SARS, Titanium, Starfish, Degree Works) to fluidly support students’ needs and document interactions.
Represents the Hawks Care Resource Center at student outreach events (i.e., open houses, activity fairs, information sessions, etc.) as necessary.
Serves as lead contact to receive and respond to incoming Hawks Care alias emails. Answers those that fall within the Resource Specialist purview and refers others to the Manager, as needed.
Establishes and maintains excellent connections with key community providers.
Demonstrates excellent oral, presentation, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Has a professional rapport with students, parents, faculty and staff throughout the College.
Stays abreast of national, state and local trends affecting the operation of basic needs-focused services in higher education.
Assists with various projects and programs as needed.
Participates in College and Divisional Committees as appropriate.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, education, communications or related area. Master’s preferred.
Experience Requirements: Three years of experience in human services, social work, student advising or related area in an educational setting, preferably at the post-secondary level. Demonstrates excellent oral, presentation, written and interpersonal communication skills.
