Summary of Position: | The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Services. Duties are inclusive of planning for and coordinating various special programming events related to the department’s function and mission. This position coordinates various recognized cultural heritage celebrations that highlight the importance of celebrating diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion to the campus community and its external stakeholders. The Assistant Director assists the Director in the implementation of ongoing and new departmental initiatives that support student development and retention, and participates in daily operations of the department. | |

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: | Participate in the daily operations of the Office of Multicultural Student Services.
Assist the Director in promoting an awareness of an ongoing commitment to issues and concerns of marginalized and underrepresented minority students.
Assist the Director in establishing and coordinating a campus-wide network of programs among university units to enhance the recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority students.
Assist the Director in identifying problems and barriers associated with the effective use of student services by marginalized and underrepresented minority students.
Provide an awareness of present programs and services and encourage their use as well as make referrals when appropriate.
Coordinate special programs and events sponsored by the department.
Coordinate and monitor activities on event days and ensure clean-up and return/storage of all properties.
Coordinate and prepare various assessments, event budgets, and monitor/record event expenditures.
Communicate various office related initiatives with key internal and external stakeholders.
Coordinate/create departmental marketing and promotional materials and web-based content.
Assist the Director in the implementation of the department’s five pillars of student service which are: advocacy, leadership development, mentorship, cultural awareness, and college access.
Advise students and registered student organizations.
Assist the Director in various presentations to promote diversity, inclusion and services of the department.
Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of designated information and for performing all duties in compliance with university policy.
Supervise and train general student office staff.
Participate and/or chair various university-wide committees.
Attend meetings, events and conferences as assigned.
Reports directly to the Director of Multicultural Student Services and is responsible for carrying out University policies and applicable laws.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. | |
