The Student Leadership and Engagement Department at the College of Saint Benedict invites applications for a full-time, benefit eligible position of Assistant Director.
The Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Engagement provides vision, planning, development, and assessment of student programming and services to promote an institutional culture that provides integrated learning opportunities to enhance student development in the Catholic, Benedictine tradition through a vibrant, active campus life. The Assistant Director oversees all phases of campus activities, program planning, development, and implementation and is responsible for advising the student programmers. The Assistant Director assists with leadership development offerings for individual students, clubs, and organizations. The Assistant Director assists with departmental contributions to the new and transfer student orientation programs, focusing on introducing students to the institutions that reflect our Catholic Benedictine values and facilitates a successful transition for new and transfer students. The Assistant Director works with faculty, staff, and students to assess needs and to create connection to campus community and structures activities programs and events that facilitate this relationship. This position has extensive contact with students and student-initiated events, as well as working collaboratively within the campus community to achieve mutual institutional programming goals.

Responsibilities
Prepare goals, objectives, and timetables related to all department programming and orientation.
Ensure department programming addresses a range of issues related to diversity and inclusion, including identity development to enhance intercultural competence.
Prepare, present, and oversee budgets related to department programming and orientation, in conjunction with the Assistant Dean and the Department Coordinator.
Assist with coordination and assessment as needed of the annual new student and transfer orientation programs in conjunction with a variety of campus partners. Assist in the selection, hiring, and training of the orientation leader student staff.
Assist with the coordination, implementation, and assessment as needed of institutional programs including but not limited to Family Weekend and Senior Events.
Supervise and coordinate the Programming Team of the Department as the primary campus programming body.
In conjunction with Assistant Dean, advise and train Departmental student employees to support campus and institutional programming both inside and out of the office environment.
Develop and oversee effective campus policies for student programming to reflect institutional policies and values.
Promote and facilitate collaborations between campus partners to enhance student involvement.
Promote and facilitate programming to enhance student learning in relation to their identity, understanding, and experience.
Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and actively engage in appropriate professional organizations.
Bachelor’s Degree with demonstrated experience working in student development, particularly in campus activities programming and student organization advising is required.
Understanding of student engagement and activities programming best practices.
Ability to clearly articulate the contribution student activities and student engagement makes to student learning.
Ability to develop and implement programs that bring about desired outcomes.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate students, share ideas with small and large groups, and connect with the needs of students on both campuses.
Ability to balance time and presence with the constituencies of both campuses.
Computer proficiency and abilities.
Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Willingness to maintain a high level of competence with an expectation of discreet judgment and confidentiality at this level of responsibility.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Travel Requirements: Some travel for professional conferences. Travel between CSB & SJU campuses.
