The Director of Recreational Sports provides leadership, vision, and supervision for a very comprehensive Recreational Sports Program, including the supervision of the day-to-day operation of the Student Life Center and all associated activities and programming, as well as the entire Recreational Sports Program, including Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, and Outdoor Pursuits.
Major Responsibilities:
Supervise the day-to-day operation of the Student Life Center and entire Recreational Sports Program, including Intramural Sports; Open Recreation; Equipment Checkout Service; Sport Clubs; Fitness Facilities/Programs (Group Exercise Program, Mind/Body Program, Personal Training Program and Massage Therapy Program); Athletic Training Program; and Outdoor Pursuits Program (Climbing/Bouldering Walls, Tripping Program, Adirondack Trailblazers Program, Cortland Bike Project, and Outdoor Equipment Rental Program).
Responsible for the effective management of assigned staff which includes, but is not limited to, leading, managing, supervising, and developing employees in a manner that is most appropriate to each individual and consistent with respective Bargaining Agreements and College policies and procedures. Responsible for making recommendations for hiring, renewal or permanent appointment as appropriate. Develop and discuss performance programs and conduct performance evaluations in a timely manner consistent with the employees' respective Bargaining Agreement and College policy and procedure.
Plan, manage, administer and reconcile the Recreational Sports and Sport Club budgets, including proper accounting methods and procedures by receipting funds accepted, making timely deposits, and maintaining good records.
Plan, promote, and administer equipment management/supplies for the department, including the purchase, inventory, and maintenance of equipment and supplies for all aspects of the Recreational Sports Program.
Develop, administer, and implement all department policies, procedures, and risk management practices.
As the Student Life Center Building Administrator, work with Auxiliary Services and Facilities Operations and Services, as well as directly with the supervising janitor and custodians, to coordinate planning for use, supervision, cleaning, and maintenance of the facility.
Plan, and advocate for, the continued operation, growth and development of the Student Life Center and entire Recreational Sports Program, including hiring additional professional/student staff, and purchasing additional equipment/supplies as needed.
Develop and maintain a positive relationship with the Student Government Association. Be sure the SGA officers understand the value of the Recreational Sports Program for all students and the importance of their continuous support in regard to providing adequate funding via the Mandatory Student Activity Fee and the Student Life Center Fee.
Keep the Student Life Center Program Manual accurate and current to confirm the purpose of the facility and ensure the basic policies/procedures/fees associated with its operation are enforced, as well as ensure that
