This position works a hybrid remote format (schedule to be determined), which requires a telecommuting agreement and adherence to the UCSC Telecommuting/Remote Work Guidelines. The employee shall be available in a full-time capacity during assigned telecommuting work hours (specific hours to be discussed with supervisor). While telecommuting/remote working, the employee is responsible for ensuring a worksite environment suitable for accomplishing their regular job duties during scheduled hours of work, as they would if they were working at the regular UCSC worksite.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Film and Digital Media major at UC Santa Cruz offers an integrated curriculum where students study the cultural impact of movies, television, video and the internet, while also producing creative work in video and interactive digital media. The department has 17 permanent faculty, 7 staff, and approximately 600 declared and proposed majors.
Involves a wide range of student services duties and responsibilities for an academic department / school / college or organization. Provides assistance to the dean / chair, faculty, and students in academic advising, recruitment, admissions, financial aid, the evaluation and awarding of fellowships and block grant funds, student orientation and events, career counseling, and related programs. Under the general direction of the Administrative Manager, provides a full range of in depth services to students, faculty, department, and other campus units, while working closely with the Directors of Graduate Studies. As an experienced professional, this role works independently to analyze information, make recommendations, initiate projects, and meet deadlines. Incumbents are required to assume an increasing role in understanding all facets of institutional policy and practice related to graduate education in the arts. The Film and Digital Media department PhD and Social Documentary MFA program build on the diverse expertise of its 19 faculty, whose strengths are drawn from multiple and intersecting disciplinary and creative backgrounds. Using methodologies drawn from those intersections, our approximately 50 students are encouraged to build programs of study across the boundaries of traditionally conceived artistic or critical endeavor. The graduate programs are designed to enable student collaboration with other programs on campus, such as History of Consciousness, Digital Art New Media, Visual Studies, and the School of Engineering.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary: $66.900 - $77,100 /annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.
Applying professional student services concepts, provides the full range of student services to Graduate student population.
Advises students and faculty on departmental / university policies and procedures; reviews students' progress and advises students and faculty on requirements for degree / program completion; identifies students with progression problems and recommends interventions; devises curriculum planning in collaboration with chair / and faculty, and with other departments; using judgement to identify problems and propose solutions.
20% - ACADEMIC PROGRAMS ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
Provides full range of administrative support including maintaining databases and server files. Creates and disseminates reports and analyses as requested.
Designs, posts, and edits website with text, photos, and graphics. Creates and revises public and internal documentation, marketing materials, brochures, etc.
Gathers information from multiple sources; maintains detailed and organized records in multiple formats
Provides back up to Administrative Manager.
Consults with department staff regarding quarterly scheduling of graduate classes.
15% - FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Oversees budgets and purchasing.
Participates in the processing, evaluation, and awarding of student fellowships, grants, and other awards.
Investigates and problem solves questions of funding; maintains detailed financial records; maintains detailed knowledge of funding allocation methodology and campus fiscal policies and practices.
Compiles financial data and reports; responsible for tracking account balances and forecasting possible overdrafts; completion of required financial forms using multiple campus systems; ensures compliance with policies and practices; and similar issues.
10% - STUDENT OUTREACH, ADMISSIONS, & RECRUITMENT
Manages all facets of outreach, admissions, and recruitment including: designs and implements outreach plans; advises prospective students on application procedures, degree requirements, possible sources of financial aid; reviews transcripts for degree eligibility; initiates and arranges student recruitment visits and events.
10% - ACADEMIC STUDENT EMPLOYMENT
Manages all aspects of appointments to academic student titles; manages related resource allocations; maintains knowledge of and ensure compliance with related employment policies and labor contracts; and similar issues.
Collaborates with Directors of Graduate Studies to oversee processes for equitable assignment of Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs), Graduate Student Researchers (GSRs) and Teaching Assistants (TAs)
5% - EVENT COORDINATION AND SPECIAL PROJECTS
Plans, facilitates, coordinates and implements full-range of department and student related events and meetings and other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems of a complex nature.
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize large volume of workload with frequent interruptions while meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated skills in creation of public materials in multiple formats, such as websites and brochures.
Demonstrated excellent verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated excellent written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment, while maintaining cooperative working relationships in a diverse and inclusive environment.
Demonstrated ability to research, learn, interpret, and apply policies including ensuring confidentiality requirements.

Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.

Knowledge of University-specific computer systems.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.

Will be required to work a hybrid work schedule, days of the week and number of days to be determined, and be able to fulfill requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
