Job Summary:
St. John's University is a Catholic, Vincentian, metropolitan, global, and anti-racist institution. The Residence Director (RD) of the Rome campus, who serves as the primary live-in administrator on campus, is central to these efforts.
The RD manages the Residence Hall and provides day-to-day support to students while they are studying in Rome and residing on campus. The RD reports to the Director of Rome Programs and supervises 3-4 part-time Resident Assistants.
Essential Functions:
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & STUDENT LIFE
Provide day to day support for the Residence Hall Community.
Facilitate the arrival and departure of St. John's student groups including airport pick-up and drop-off.
Work with Student Life Coordinator to conduct an orientation for all incoming residents that familiarizes them with Residence policies and helps them adjust to life abroad.
Coordinate summer bed rental clients, including check-in, check-out, arrivals, departures, orientations and classroom scheduling.
Coordinate with maintenance personnel to manage the operations of the residence and facilities of the Rome Campus to ensure a safe, well-maintained student environment.
Oversee preparations of Residence for student arrival, including coordination with Rome Administration facilities staff and cleaning service.
Plan and deliver the Cultural Mentorship Program to students in Rome, in coordination with the Coordinator of Academics and Program Development.
Maintain regular office hours to be available for students' questions and assistance.
Attend occasional evening and weekend events or trips as assigned by Director of Rome Programs
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Administer University and residence hall policies and coordinate with Public Safety as needed.
Work to ensure the health, safety and general welfare of all students on St. John's Rome program in keeping with protocols and guidelines established by St. John's.
Serve as primary resource for student health and safety on campus, dealing with crises and emergencies as they arise. Coordinate response to such emergencies as needed, in a manner consistent with St. John's emergency response protocols.
Serve as primary contact for students for any mediation or conflict resolution issues, particularly as they relate to housing and health issues.
Establish and maintain communication with students living in the residence hall through individual outreach and community meetings.
ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS
Manage administrative reports and forms (e.g. health and safety forms) and submit them to NY and Rome administrators as needed.
Amend Residence Director and Resident Assistant manuals to reflect needs, policies and procedures specific to the Rome Campus and update as needed.
Update Rome Campus Guide as necessary in conjunction with Student Life Coordinator.
Manage room assignments, and distribution and collection of e-keys. Coordinate with IT to input e-key information into database.
Manage graduate students dorm and health insurance billing.
Track and manage incident reports and incident report inputs for global locations.
Track and manage residence life violations
Track and manage fines and charge fines to students' accounts in Banner
Participate in daily administrative activities in coordination with Rome colleagues to support the smooth functioning of Rome programs. Attend student meetings along with other Rome staff.
Work with Rome staff to coordinate assessment initiatives to determine student satisfaction in services and housing and devise a plan to continually improve operations.
Manage and track students' attendance to orientation and mandatory activities and enforce related sanctions.
Organize and manage mailing and shipping for administrative purposes.
RESIDENT ASSISTANT TRAINING & SUPERVISION
Recruit, train, and supervise a staff of 3-4 Resident Assistants on proper safety and reporting protocols and procedures. Monitor work performance and compliance with St. John's procedures and provide on-going training as needed. Plan and conduct weekly RA meetings. Advise and support RAs in matters of student services, discipline, and building management.
Track RAs hours and ensure they are equally distributed among the RAs
Create RA duty schedule

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Full-time position of 38 hours per week, as per Italian CBA. Office hours are Monday to Friday with occasional evening/weekend/public holiday work due to programmatic needs or emergencies.
Travel
Occasional field trips in Italy and travel to the New York and Paris campuses may be required.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
1-2 years experience in U.S. higher education and/or study abroad
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's in education, educational counseling, international education or a related field
3-5 years experience in U.S. higher education and/or study abroad
Experience with Banner and TerraDotta
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Authorized to work in the Schengen area
Fluent in Italian and English
Experience with educational systems in both Italy and the U.S.
