POSITION DETAILS
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, the Student Life Director will act as a senior member within the Division of Student Affairs and will lead the Division at the discretion and in the absence of the Assistant Vice President. The Student Life Director is responsible for developing and implementing a broad range of programs and services responsive to students??? needs while cultivating a culture of student learning, campus and civic engagement, academic success, and lifelong achievement.
Duties include (but are not limited to): ??
- Manage and implement the Division???s Goals and Targets, Strategic Plan, Mission, and Guiding Principles.
- Support the strategic priorities of the College by serving as a representative of the Division of Student Affairs on various College- and University-wide committees and projects.
- Direct meetings to ensure efficient communication and understanding of emerging and on-going issues, as well as strategic priorities for the College.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Office for Student Affairs and students, academic departments, faculty, staff and the community to support the mission of the College.
- Collaborate with members of the Queens College administration to both advocate for students and achieve the Division???s goals.
- Chair the Behavioral Intervention Team and serve on the Title IX Committee.
- Provide direction and intervention for students in crisis and non-crisis, including intervening with mental health staff, providing victim advocacy, and working with staff and students affected by the crisis.
- Present workshops on student behavioral issues to include addressing disruptive student behavior both in and out of the classroom; University expectations, prevention of and responses to academic misconduct; compliance with mandates; and creating a campus culture that promotes character development and civic responsibility.
- Provide direction and supervision for the Directors of Judicial Affairs and Service Learning, Student Development and Leadership, and Veteran Support Services & ROTC.
- Oversee budget(s) as assigned, ensuring that expenditures are within budget allocations.
- Direct the development, oversight and management of Divisional publications, communications, and web presence.
- Study, analyze and anticipate the needs and desires of the student body and translate such selected activities into practical and feasible programs in keeping with the general direction of overall College and University goals and mission.
- Collaborate with Assistant Vice Presidents within and outside CUNY as a guide for defining norms and introducing innovations to the Division of Student Affairs.
- Interpret policies and procedures in compliance with the City University of New York, local, state, and federal law.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor???s degree and eight years??? related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- An earned Master???s Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in student affairs/development, counseling, educational administration, or related field.
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in a senior leadership role within the student affairs/services or related.
- Successful prior experience in student affairs, academic integrity, Title IX also preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with behavioral intervention teams, best practices for student success, development and retention.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Experience working with student leader and targeted under-served groups.
- Experience in a higher education setting working with marginalized communities.

An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted.
