Detailed Description:
The Director of the Center for Health and Wellness Promotion is responsible for the creation and on-going development of a comprehensive health promotion program. The Director will manage university-wide health promotion efforts including the continued development of the mental health and life skills programs, activities, services, and the assessment of all wellness promotion initiatives. The Director will participate in the CARE on call process. The Director will oversee mandated educational trainings for the entire USD student community. The Director is responsible for working with campus partners in the development and implementation of student learning outcomes and strategic planning. This position oversees student wellness peer education program development and growth. The position provides direct supervision of professional staff and oversight of supervision of graduate assistants and student employees. This position will develop and maintain campus partnerships, serve as a primary Student Wellness liaison, and serve as a representative of Student Wellness on campus and community-based committees. This position is also responsible for the coordination and facilitation of Student Wellness outreach efforts and the implementation of health promotion strategic goals and assessment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage university-wide health promotion and wellness outreach efforts

• Develop and manage outreach, promotion programs, and peer education efforts spanning student wellness concerns including Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Use, Mental Health, Life Skill Development, Stress, Sleep, Sexual Violence, and more.
• Actively participate in the development of student learning outcomes and strategic planning.
• Provide wellness trainings and consultations for USD community members including students, staff, faculty, parents, and other stakeholders.
• Facilitate the development and implementation of population-based wellness initiatives.
• Manage content development and promotion of USD mental health and life skills website, You Are USD
• Serve as a CARE Advocate and as a key partner to the development and promotion of the CARE program.
• Participate in the CARE on call process (nights and weekends as needed).
• Coordinate, track, and report student wellness outreach events.

Supervision and Administrative Responsibilities

• Exercise direct supervision of Associate Directors for Health Promotion, Associate Director for Prevention Education and Executive Assistant. Provides oversight for supervision of CHWP Graduate Assistants, Student Employees, and Peer Educators.
• Oversee the daily functioning of the Center for Health and Wellness Promotion programs, activities, services, and experiences.
• Actively lead and participate in the development and implementation of learning outcomes, strategic planning, and program evaluations to gauge program for quality and effectiveness.
• Oversee mandated educational trainings for entire USD student community, including follow-up and fines for non-compliance.
• Manage departmental budget, ensuring all USD financial policies are followed.
• Serve as a representative of Student Wellness on campus and community-based committees.
• Initiate and foster liaison relationships with units across campus.
• Lead the unit's efforts to develop grant proposals to support student-centered initiatives and programs.
• Manages the Student Health Insurance response messaging.
• Other duties and projects as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs for Student Wellness.

Develop and provide leadership to USD Wellness Area's peer education programs

• Develop and oversee all wellness related peer programs.
• Recruit, select, train, and supervise sexual assault peer educator interns.
• Develop curriculum components for the required pre-service academic class taken by Peer Educators and Peer Advisors.

Manage assessment initiatives and mandatory reporting requirements within the Student Wellness Area

• Develop and implement assessment tools and processes to assess effectiveness of prevention efforts, programs and services, and generate recommendations for adjustments to programs and services, when needed.
• Lead implementation of biennial campus-wide health assessment (ACHA-NCHA II)
• Manage Student Wellness assessment data and share with campus partners as requested.
• Oversee the completion of mandatory reporting requirements for the federal government.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

• Masters degree in public health, social work, psychology, counseling, higher education or related field required.
• Five or more years of professional experience in Student Affairs, Student Wellness or related area required, including two years of supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of best practices in health promotion for college age populations
• Professional experience in the preparation and dissemination of wellness information, public health education, and population-based interventions
• Experience working with a college population or young adults in a similar setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completed certification for Sexual Assault Counselor as defined in California Evidence Code 1035.2 and/or Domestic Violence Counselor as defined in Evidence Code 1037.1 (or comparable certification from another state) and willingness to obtain California certification within first 90 days of employment required.
• Experience recruiting, training, motivating, and advising peer educators.
• Certified Health Education Specialist Doctoral degree in public health, social work, psychology, counseling, higher education, or related field.
• If a clinician, must be currently licensed and if not already, be eligible to be licensed in California.

Performance Expectations: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Skill in developing and overseeing the training and advising of peer education programs, with particular emphasis in the areas of alcohol and other drugs, and sexual assault.
• Supervisory skills and the ability to serve on a management team.
• Ability to operate within an enthusiastic team environment and maintain effective collaborative working relationships with other professionals and community members.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and peers. Knowledge of college student development theory, advising techniques, and performance assessment practices.
• Knowledge of health promotion principles and best practices.
• Knowledge of the means of disseminating educational information, program planning, and event coordination.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience in the design of print and electronic promotional, educational, and marketing materials (i.e. campaigns, brochures, awareness resources).
• Ability to create reports, articles, educational, and marketing materials for publication in newsletters and bulletins.
• Ability to lead group discussions, prepare and deliver informational talks and workshops. Ability to support and refer students to needed resources as they work toward making behavior changes.
• Ability to exercise appropriate judgment and discretion, particularly in sensitive and confidential matters.
• Demonstrated creativity, resourcefulness, use of original ideas, and visionary skills in the performance of duties.
• Knowledge of techniques related to assessment and collecting, compiling and dissemination of empirical data.
• Skill working with a diverse population, demonstrated multicultural competency and the ability to integrate unique needs and concerns of multicultural populations into health promotion efforts.
• Familiarity with Catholic higher education and willingness to support the Catholic mission and vision of the University.

$5,373.34 - $7,750.00 per month; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
