The Division of Student Life plays an integral role in the College's vision and values, and every member of the Division of Student Life supports the delivery of a transformative student experience.
The Director of Student Health & Wellness reports directly to the Dean of Students. They provide a creative vision and leadership for the Student Health Center and a comprehensive wellness program. The Director provides clinical care and health services, including nursing assessments, examinations, and treatment. In addition, the Director delivers patient-focused advice and education; and conducts prevention and outreach services.
Administrative Responsibilities: Responsible for overseeing all administrative, clinical, and educational aspects of Student Health & Wellness.
Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates Student Health Center staff, the Registered Nurse, Student Health and Wellness Coordinator, and student employee(s).
Ensure that the Student Health Center contributes to a safe learning environment that promotes student clinical health and development by creating, implementing, and enforcing operational guidelines, departmental finances, policies, and procedures.
Prepares long- and short-range plans and budgets, monitors and reports performance related to goals, and manages office budget.
Collects data and develops and implements program assessment plan to evaluate student learning outcomes and satisfaction.
Ensures implementation and compliance with college-mandated insurance policies for student health.
Serve as a campus member on committees and advisory groups as needed or requested.
Form collaborative relationships with students, staff, faculty, and other campus partners.
Build and maintain relationships with public health agencies (local, state, and federal), community healthcare providers, and vendors to support student care.
Work closely with campus and community partners to support students holistically as medical issues and crises arise.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students.
Clinical Responsibilities: Directs the clinical operations to deliver appropriate, high-quality health care treatment and prevention services.
Assessment and management of students' acute, chronic, and preventive health issues, consistent with defined practice guidelines and American College Health Association (ACHA) and CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education - Clinical Health Services.
Provides appropriate medical treatment to students within the accepted professional standards and scope of practice.
Collaborates with the registered nurse to formulate an individualized plan(s) of care for student patients.
Performs laboratory duties, including waste management and written forms according to the protocol, and exhibits knowledge ofOSHA,TOSHA,CLIA, and other regulatory agency regulations as needed.
Serve as primary liaison between Rhodes College Student Health Center and the Medical Director to maintain premier medical care for the campus community.
Refers to patients for specialized medical care beyond the scope of Student Health Services, including coordination of medical transport as needed.
Communicate effectively with staff, parents, students, physicians, and off-campus medical personnel to provide follow-up care and support to students.
Ensure implementation, submission, and compliance of student health forms.
Work with the Student Health and Wellness Coordinator and Register Nurse to ensure student health implementation and compliance with college-mandated insurance policies.
Communication and Outreach Responsibilities: Works collaboratively and cooperatively to contribute to a campus environment that facilitates students' healthy growth and development.
Provide educational programs and services for healthy lifestyle decision-making.
Collaborate with Student Health and Wellness Coordinator to develop and implement workshops to assist students in matters related to health education.
Job Requirements:
A master's degree or doctorate in nursing is required with current or eligible to obtain a Tennessee license and certification. MD and DO candidates are welcome.
License and certification must be in good standing.
CurrentDEA certification, NPI number, and CPR/First Aid certification.
Current immunizations (Tdap, M.M.R, Meningococcal, Varicella, TBST (TB Skin Test), and Flu Shot) and proof of professional liability insurance.
Five years of administrative experience and clinical experience in college health, primary care, urgent care, or related field with a preference for health education and supervisory experience in a clinical setting.
Knowledge of regulatory agency requirements, insurance, computer, health assessment, laboratory, and verbal and written communication skills.
Familiar with the American Association of College Health.
Demonstrated use of diversity, equity, and inclusion approaches to clinical care.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to work independently in a highly productive and fast-paced environment.
Extensive knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies; Proven leadership in risk management.
Knowledge and experience with College policies and legal issues in higher education.
Ability to mediate and use problem-solving skills to conduct alternative dispute resolution.
Ability and experience investigating and responding to risk management and wellness concerns.
Ability to provide perspective and utilize a proactive style of leadership that encourages teamwork and interaction.
Excellent written and communication skills; Full competence in computer software packages for the office environment.
A thorough understanding of the organizational management of student affairs/health services, including partnership building with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community.
Ability to work with a culturally diverse population and promote a campus climate of inclusion and participation by all students.
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to deal with complex and sometimes sensitive issues.

Ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships across campus; interact effectively and respectfully with students, faculty, staff, and families to establish and maintain good working relationships.
Evening and weekend hours may be required periodically.
