Collegiate Recovery Program Coordinator (Non-Exempt)

POSITION/TITLE: Collegiate Recovery Program Coordinator 

LOCATION: Mars Hill, NC

 

SUPERVISOR: Director of Counseling Services 

 

SCOPE: Through dynamic and innovative approaches, Student Life is a robust program that provides students with opportunities for meaningful engagement and transformation in the co-curricular context. The professional literature is very clear that quality recovery supports on a campus are a key component to student retention. This position is an essential part of the investment in wellness at Mars Hill. 

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

·         The job is sedentary in nature

·         Must be able to sit for long periods while performing office and computer operations

·         40 hours/week is expected; times may vary depending on client need, crisis issues, event hours, etc.

·         On-call duty

·         Bachelor’s Degree

·         Knowledge of higher education, student life, and student development theory – experience working with young adult population

·         Training and experience working with adolescents and young adults in recovery

·         Knowledge of addiction, recovery, and return to use prevention theories and practice

·         Personal experience with recovery preferred

·         Ability to work well with a diverse population of students

·         Ability to work congruently within the mission of the university, division and department

·         Excellent communication skills required (ability to clearly express ideas and concepts orally and in writing)

·         Strong commitment to the values of diversity and human compassion

·         Commitment to the academic achievement and personal development of college students, including the understanding of student success initiatives such as a first-year seminar program

·         Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

·         Assist in the development and implementation of the Collegiate Recovery Program strategic plan

·         As needed, consult with the Disability Services Coordinator to ensure appropriate housing and academic accommodations are made available for qualifying students

·         Provide basic case management services for students in the program

·         Facilitate support groups and other recovery-based activities for students in the program 

·         Maintain up to date records 

·         Coordinate with Housing and Residence Life to support recovery housing for students in the program

·         Collaborate with Campus Engagement and Leadership and other campus partners to provide programming for students in the program

·         Communicate with MHU faculty, staff, and students regarding ethical guidelines, mental health and wellness information, local resources, and advocacy initiatives

·         Contribute to the assessment of student needs  

·         Contribute to the organization and planning for multiple outreach and education events per year

·         Utilize avenues for communicating resources and processes with students, including the use of the web and via Lion’s ROAR (new student orientation)

·         Contribute to the mental health training for staff, faculty, and administration on basic recovery principles and recognizing high risk students

·         Contribute to the student mental health training on a regular basis in the classroom, residence hall, or guest presenter format

·         Implement assessment strategies for recovery program outcomes and collaborate with multiple partners across various forms of communication to ensure student wellness and success

·         Serve as on-call support for the recovery program 

·         Collaborate with multiple campus partners (faculty, athletics, disability services, student engagement, dean of students, Title IX, etc.) to support students

·         Utilize technological systems (LionTrax and PIVOT) to track interventions, as appropriate

·         Attend monthly Student Life divisional meetings (as able)

·         Adhere to guidelines in the University Personnel & Safety Handbooks and departmental policies

·         Other duties as assigned
