Position Summary
The Business and Technology Application Analyst (BTAA) for Student Affairs will evaluate business systems, assess and identify how they align with user needs, and perform tasks to achieve an understanding of business change needs including potential impact on the division. Capturing, analyzing, documenting and managing requirements for assigned projects, the BTAA will communicate with relevant parties and execute plans to achieve the optimal results. Through partnership with both central IT and departments, the BTAA will develop thorough application knowledge and will seek opportunities to broaden expertise and knowledge on an ongoing basis.
The Division of Student Affairs is a collection of offices that serve and support the student population at Washington University in St. Louis. These offices include the Career Center, Residential Life, Health & Wellness, Athletics & Recreation, the Taylor Family Center for Student Success, Campus Life, the Office for Scholar Programs, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Student Transitions & Family Programs, to name a few. The individual in this position will work closely with both Student Affairs and central IT to ensure that departmental systems are maintained, functioning appropriately, and being updated or replaced, as needed.
This individual will be part of a team that serves the division to support its operations. This team includes financial and HR operations, Assessment & Analytics, and IT support.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
BUILD & MAINTAIN: Analyze, measure, design, and execute plans for information technology solutions. Helps to determine appropriate architecture and other technical solutions and makes relevant recommendations to clients. Configures, modifies, tests, implements, maintains and supports applications software. Understands the workflow and business requirements and has the ability to build/modify the system to meet business specifications. Develops, reviews and integrates new forms and pages, graphics and other elements, including HTML code and scripts for website applications. Provides support to end users and seeks to make improvements through process improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
PROJECT LIAISON: In collaboration with Wash U IT Project Management and Enterprise Applications, develop plans for changes in services, systems, and delivery models related to IT needs of the Division. Researches and evaluates new technology, products, specialized hardware and tools to optimize development and functionality of applications. Coordinates work with other team members for application development and administration, network administration and database administration to ensure that architecture, functionality and design are consistent with all information technology strategies. Serve as point person for central IT related to ongoing projects and initiatives. Prepares business cases working with divisional and departmental leadership and Wash U IT staff, ensuring business opportunities and objectives are clearly articulated, including feasibility analysis, as required.
COMMUNICATION: Write and maintain system documentation. Creates online help functions, including application documentation. Contributes to development of detailed specification documents with clear deliverables and timelines.
REPORTING & ANALYSIS: Utilize system reporting tools for the purpose of investigative problem analysis. In partnership with Assessment team, build reporting solutions.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
Job Location/Working Conditions
The work is normally performed remotely and in the offices located across campus. There will be activities that require trips to various locations on the Danforth Campus. Some work will be performed onsite in our Student Health Center, which is a patient care environment. This position is eligible for remote work 60-80% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of relevant experience analyzing business processes and data.
Familiar with IIBA Guide to the business Analysis Body of Knowledge.
Business education.
ITIL framework and IT product methodologies.
Familiarity with testing techniques and software.
Prior experience in higher education environments a plus.
Prior experience in a clinical setting a plus.
Familiarity with SQL, SSRS, and HTML.
Project Management: Interacts as a productive team member on a project team or manages a project task.
Technical Knowledge: Understands theory behind applications systems analysis and programming and requires some guidance to develop applications.
Technical Solution Development: Develops logical flow of simple applications; ability to design input/output and file specifications based on project specifications.
Technical Support: Effectively uses available tools in problem-solving and systems analysis; ability to perform diagnostics on assigned software and/or hardware according to standard operating procedures.
Consultancy Skills: Ability to consult with clients on issues and requests that require the implementation or creation of a custom solution.
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and independent problem solving skills.
Demonstrated Microsoft Office Suite abilities.
Demonstrated ability to self-direct work and manage deadlines.
Demonstrated understanding of business analyst tools and techniques.
Required Qualifications
Certification or degree in computer programming from a technical school or college plus two years of relevant work experience required; additional relevant programming experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for required education.

Salary Range
$63,900.00 - $109,100.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
