Retail Sales Specialist - The Cornell Store (Tech Connect & Branch Store Locations)

We strive to deliver legendary customer service and quality products to meet the needs of the Cornell Community. In service of Cornell students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors, The Cornell Store team successfully runs a multi-channel retail business, including a 22,000 sq. ft. flagship campus store, 3 expansive e-commerce sites, and 3 satellite locations throughout the Ithaca area and NYC, ultimately producing a cumulative $26 million in annual retail sales.

We are currently seeking two (2) full-time Retail Sales Specialist in our Tech Connect department at our main store location and our downtown Ithaca Commons Branch Store location.

• Main Store - Tech Connect - At our flag ship store, the Tech Connect department encompasses a range of technology products that are critical to the academic success of our students, faculty and staff. These products include variety of computers and tablets, and other hardware and technology accessories our customers may be searching for.
• Ithaca Commons Branch Store - The Cornell Store's, Ithaca Commons location, is located on the award-winning Downtown Ithaca Commons, a four-block pedestrian shopping area with over 100 unique shops, restaurants, street vendors and street entertainers. The retail sales portfolio for this location is ~$1 million in total annual sales.

The Opportunity:

The Retail Sales Specialist will support the Retail Leads and Retail Store Manager by providing frontline assistance with sales and service, point of sale support, visual merchandising support, inventory transfers and assist with training of student and part time staff. In this role, you will create an outstanding shopping experience by engaging with customers and providing product information and guidance as well as assist customers with the check-out process and help handle any returns needed. In addition, you will help make sure the sales floor is shoppable and welcoming by keeping merchandise tidy and stocked. As the Retail Sales Specialist, you will strive to create a positive and inclusive work environment as part of a team that takes pride in representing The Cornell Store and maintains a respectful and courteous manner at all times.

The Accountabilities:

Success in this role includes the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment both independently and as a team player as well as being able to multi-task effectively through multiple priorities. Additionally, it's important to consistently demonstrate strong customer service skills and be able to work with, and support, a variety of customers, visitors, clients and staff. In this role, it's important to be flexible as the schedule may change based on business needs and will include some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The Qualifiers:

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of experience in a retail environment or an equivalent combination or education and experience. College coursework, Associates degree or other formal training is preferred.
• Competency with computer/systems use.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated passion for customer service
• Ability to occasionally climb ladders and lift and/or move 25-50 pounds as needed.

What we prefer:

• Additional work experience in business management, hospitality, fashion/design, and or other related fields.
• Prior experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems

The Cornell Store is a part of the Student and Campus Life (SCL) Division that inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.
