Department Description
The Chemistry Department is a large and complex academic and research department located in the College of Letters and Science. The department has state and extramural funds with expenditures of approximately $30M annually. There are 29 staff members, 41 senate faculty, 4 continuing lecturers, many Federation appointees, Emeritus Faculty, Postdocs, Pre-Six Lecturers, 250 graduate students and 650 undergraduate majors.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Student Services Supervisor, serve as one of two undergraduate academic advisors in the Department of Chemistry. Provide comprehensive, advanced academic advising on a wide range of complex issues to undergraduate students in the department's four majors and support faculty members. Independently handle admission processes including freshman and transfer students. Interpret and implement policies, administer undergraduate activities for the department. Work with faculty and the department manager on program development and administration. Manage quality assessment and policy development.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to travel to multiple sites, and various locations across California to provide oversight of project and support various communication strategies and events.
Sit or stand at desk for long periods of time.
Ability to lift 40 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily 8 to 5 PM, but may require some evenings, weekends, and/or holidays to meet operational needs. Option of flexible hours and hybrid schedule are possible.
Vacation leave coordinated around busy periods.

Experience with counseling and advising students in a University setting including academic planning and course selection techniques, study skills, and policies and procedures.
Experience assessing college transcripts and accurately calculating course grades and grade point averages, balances and deficiencies.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
Knowledge of university, college, major, design, general education and requirements and their application to specific programs of major.
Knowledge of transfer admissions criteria and applicability of credit from other institutions; course registration and procedures and other information and available forms.
Interpersonal and communication skills to communicate effectively with administration, faculty, staff, students and the public.
Writing, editing and proofreading skills to answer correspondence, write reports, and develop information materials.
Computer skills using software programs for word processing, maintaining databases, and accessing student information.

Experience with BANNER, OASIS, Degree Certification, MyDegree, ICMS, CANVAS and other campus systems that support student services.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
Knowledge of university procedures related to undergraduate students and major requirements.
Skills to obtain, correlate and analyze data and develop statistics from a variety of campus resources.
Skills to retrieve and assemble information for the preparation of reports, schedules, correspondence, etc.
