Assistant Director, New Student and Transitional Programs
The University of Southern Indiana invites applications for the Assistant Director of New Student and Transitional Programs to assist in the planning, development, coordination, and supervision of all aspects of the New Student and Transitional Program department.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Facilitate the orientation and transition of new and transfer students into the institution and the integration of new and transfer students into the social, cultural, and intellectual climate of the University through various programs.
Assist the Director in the planning and coordination of the University orientation programs.
Responsible for the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of students that assist in the implementation of transition programs.
Develop and implement leadership programs specifically for freshman, which includes but is not limited to, the Emerging Leader program, freshmen leadership camp (Camp Eagle), and service projects. This includes program development, logistics, and the selection and training of student mentors.
Responsible for the creation and distribution of online newsletter(s) and social media posts for the office.
Assist in the planning, developing and implementing of Parent and Family programs and services.
Assist in conducting ongoing assessment, research, and evaluation of departmental programs and utilize the findings to shape program efforts and the preparation of a variety of reports.
Assist in the administrative responsibility for budget development and management of budgets for programs under the responsibility of this position.
Supervise student employees within the department.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Master’s degree in student personnel, counseling and development, higher education, or similar field required.
Two years professional experience in higher education with focus on program planning required. Experience in either orientation administration and programming or leadership development preferred.
Knowledge of the basic principles and theories of student development and educational administration, and public relations required.
Understanding of institutional business and management procedures preferred.
Experience in the development and presentation of workshops, classes, and training preferred.
Understanding of the cultural, social, educational, and recreational needs of the campus community required.
Ability to stimulate student interest and involvement required.
Ability to work with and relate to a diverse public required.
Strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills required.
Ability to manage multiple demands while in a setting involving high interaction with students.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher), Canva, CRMs, and social media.
The expected salary range for this position will be $53,000-$54,500 commensurate with experience.
