The Urban Health Program Assistant Director is responsible for providing leadership and innovation in the development, integration, and implementation of the College mission to foster service and empowerment to the College's diverse urban student population. The Urban Health Program Assistant Director is responsible for integrating the Urban Health Program with the College and University Diversity Initiative goals, particularly in the areas of student recruitment, retention, professional development, and mentoring. A critical responsibility of this role is directing activities of the AHS undergraduate health science research and clinical training agenda with a goal of providing development opportunities that foster successful matriculation of students who are historically underrepresented into the health sciences.
Duties & Responsibilities
Serves as a member of the campus-wide Urban Health Program Management Team and the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) which establish UHP goals and plans for the entire campus.
Directs activities and programming for the AHS undergraduate health science research training agenda including developing collaborations with campus partners and faculty research mentors; providing advising support; facilitating workshops, training, and orientation; coordinating peer mentor program; documenting scholar participation and program progress, as well as assessing program outcomes.
Partners with Assistant Dean for Recruitment on targeted recruitment activities and outreach to support College and Urban Health Program goals, including assistance for transfer students.
Develops programming for the underrepresented undergraduate population at large to address graduate/professional school readiness and build programming efforts to enhance their overall candidacy.
Manages and implements targeted programs designed to enhance retention and student success in students' chosen careers in collaboration with the AHS Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and Academic Support and Achievement Program (ASAP).
Compiles, analyzes data, develops metrics, and disseminates student information reports to the College, related to admissions, enrollment, ethnicity, and retention, specifically for underrepresented populations in coordination with the other members of the Office of the Dean.
Provides support and direction to the academic units to develop comprehensive recruitment, mentoring, retention and enrichment strategies for underrepresented student populations in collaboration with Associate/Assistant Deans.
Participates in proposals and research projects that support the Urban Health Program and efforts of the college diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. (Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in higher education student personnel, student affairs, college student development, or a related field preferred.
Five years of experience in recruitment, admissions, academic advising, retention programming, and/or other student success initiatives in higher education
Knowledge of best practices in implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and strategies.
Open communication style with strong public speaking and written communication skills.
Exceptional relationship building and strategic thinking abilities.
Familiarity with student development theory and FERPA.
