The department of Academic and Support Services for Student-Athletes is seeking to hire an Assistant Director that provides academic support and guidance for student-athletes to create academic and co-curricular plans, connects students with resources and opportunities, and provides ongoing support throughout the student's academic career. The Assistant Director serves as a central point of contact for assigned students and works intentionally and strategically with campus partners, as orchestrated carefully by the Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Academic Advising
Work with student-athletes individually to create curricular and co-curricular plans for timely graduations and long-term success.
Meet/consult with students one-on-one, in small groups, electronically, or via phone.
Present students with options for effective support/resources and for enhancing their academic program with co-curricular.
Refer students to other campus resources.
Respond to alerts, messages, and requests from various systems/partners (e.g., from FIRE, care team, sports medicine, academic updates from faculty, etc.)
Promote a culture of inclusion, working effectively within a culture of individuals with diverse backgrounds, styles, abilities, and motivations.
Abide by and comply with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Conference rules, academic standards, requirements, and policies of the Department of Athletics and University.
Records and Data Management
Track student-athletes' academic performance (academic good standing/eligibility, graduation track, individual and team GPAs) and provide reports.
Request updates from faculty with an academic updates technology system, act on information and provide reports.
Collaborate with SSC leadership, utilizing the SSC data collection system (currently Redrock) for study hours and academic updates.
Maintained appointment and walk-in availability in online systems.
Record information about student appointments, conversations, and referrals.
Maintain appropriate confidentiality per established policies.
Coordinate with Campus Partners
Work with Athletic Department, Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs to ensure student-athlete success.
Manage Return To Learn process for student-athletes (after a concussion or other significant injury/illness)
Stay updated on all changes to degree programs to advise all majors effectively.
Establish programmatic initiatives for student-athletes.
Coordinate with other support/service units.
As needed, participate in recruitment, enrollment, academic affairs, orientation, and other campus-wide events.
Job Requirements:
Master's Degree from a four-year college or university
One to two years of related work experience
Willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community
Demonstrated ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations effectively
Strong attention to detail
