The position is for the academic year starting August 2023. A salary commensurate with experience, degree attainment, and qualifications is paid to employees annually. Position Description and Requirements
St. Johns Country Day School, an independent college preparatory school, is seeking an experienced leader to fill the role of Athletic Director for this 12-month position. The Athletic Director is responsible for assuring compliance with all St. Johns standards and policies. Qualified applicants will value strong relationships with students and colleagues. The Athletic Director is responsible for reporting directly to the Head of School, for the implementation and monitoring of the overall athletic program of the School.
Responsibilities
Attend all Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) meetings/trainings.
Conduct the athletic program of the School in accordance with rules of the School, and the FHSAA.
Work in conjunction with school Division Heads and Deans to coordinate and supervise athletic events.
Promote and model good sportsmanship to all student athletes, coaches, parents, and community members through a written code of conduct dispersed to all athletes and families.
Work cooperatively with the Head of School and/or Division Heads in the hiring and evaluation of athletic coaches, volunteers, and athletic department stakeholders.
Prepare an ongoing plan of facility improvements and repairs of the athletic facilities in conjunction with the Director of Facilities.
Oversee the inventory of athletic equipment and supplies, prepare bid specifications and purchase orders for athletic department expenditures. Provide a rotational schedule of equipment and uniforms.
Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with local recreational programs, junior high schools, and local businesses and community partners.
Maintain a working knowledge of current National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations and disseminate appropriate materials to coaches and student athletes.
Actively promote the athletic program of the School through various technology-based communication platforms.
Help coordinate transportation for the athletic programs.
Oversee and encourage the promotion, sale of tickets, and fundraising events of the athletic programs and assume responsibility for receipts and deposits of athletic funds with the school business office in accordance with established procedures.
Coordinate and maintain the athletic department’s scheduling of athletic facilities for all athletic events and activities.
Ensure that all student athletes that participate meet the requirements set forth by the FHSAA and district to participate.
Oversee each coach’s monitoring program for academics and provide guidance where appropriate. Provide consistency for all programs.
Ensure the planning and organization of award banquets/ceremonies for athletic teams.
Assist in the scheduling of all interscholastic contests, preparing game contracts, and communicating with officials and athletic trainers.
Coordinate and supervise all gameday operation plans of each athletic facility, which includes: public address announcer, gameday audio, and any other broadcast (optional).
Maintain a file of all athletic suspensions/expulsions; insurance documentation; physicals (Magnus), and other required forms by the FHSAA.
Review and make recommendations to the Head of School pertaining to athletic policies and disseminate the information to the coaches, parents, and students.
Develop and monitor equity plans for the athletic programs as necessary.
Perform other such duties as requested by the Head of School.

Previous successful experience as a varsity head coach preferred.
Ability to effectively present information and respond effectively to questions in one-on-one, small group situations to students, parents, and the school staff.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, governmental regulations, etc.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Have a visionary mindset that adapts to change and encourages growth.
