Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks an experienced, student-centered, and pedagogically innovative Physics teacher to join our community as a full-time faculty member who will actively support and fulfill KUA’s mission “to create a deep sense of belonging for every member of our community. Through intentionally designed experiences and challenges, our students develop the knowledge, voice, and character to live with purpose and integrity.”
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Plan and teach four sections of physics across two different year-long courses - 9th Grade Conceptual Physics and AP Physics C
Prepare students for success on the AP C exam
Teach a curriculum and work in collaboration with a community that embraces diversity, provides equity, and ensures inclusion and belonging for all
Open to learning and utilizing the principles of KUA Design within the classroom, coaching, advising and within the residential program
Teach using current pedagogical practices including Universal Design for Learning, backwards planning (Understanding by Design), and project-based learning to equip students with the 21st century skills they need for college and beyond
Coach sports and/or lead activities
Advise a small cohort of students
Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends
Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices
Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the on-going collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA’s curriculum
Participate in committee work as assigned by school leadership
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering, education, or a closely related field; a graduate degree in physics or engineering is preferred
3-5 years (or more) of teaching high school physics and AP Physics
Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department
Facility with Mac OS, Microsoft365, and other science education-enhancing products is preferred
Experience in a range of sports – coaching experience preferred
Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues
Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly
Student-centered educator with a commitment to investing in the lives of young people
