About the West Campus House System
The West Campus House System offers a living and learning experience for sophomores, juniors, and seniors at Cornell University and is charged with bringing students and faculty together in a spirit of inquiry and active citizenship. Each House in the West Campus House System is overseen by a House Professor-Dean, a tenured faculty member who guides and directs the House's educational program, and a House Assistant Dean, a student affairs professional who directs the multiple functions of the House and shares responsibility with the House Professor-Dean for the realization of House's educational mission.
About Hans Bethe House
Hans Bethe House is the third of five residential colleges built at Cornell in the first decade of the 21st century comprising the university's West Campus House System. It opened in the fall of 2007. The House accommodates 370+ students in a faculty-led, student-governed residential community. The name honors long-time and beloved Cornell faculty member Hans A. Bethe.
The Opportunity
Hans Bethe House is seeking an Administrative Coordinator who will support the impact on student development by serving as a resource and role model for house office student staff and residents of Bethe House. The coordinator will ensure that all administrative processes for the House are completed in an efficient and timely manner in support of residents, faculty, and staff. The coordinator will also have shared responsibility for carrying out annual initiatives that have impact on all five Houses in the West Campus House System.
A successful Administrative Coordinator will:
- Acquire familiarity in all administrative and logistical tasks associated with the House Manager role, and proactively identify ways to enhance House operations and community.
- Foster an environment that is welcoming, positive, and inclusive for a diverse community of students, guests, and campus partners, through personal actions, communication, and presentation.
- Utilize previous supervisory experience to refine skills and knowledge in overseeing, developing, and guiding student staff.
- Consistently demonstrate professionalism, discretion, confidentiality, diplomacy, and independent judgment in decision-making and actions.
- Continuously seek opportunities for personal and professional growth and adapt to new skills and knowledge acquired.
This is a full-time (39 hours/week) endowed position that is completely on-site in Ithaca, NY. Typical work hours are 8am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours to meet department needs.
What We Need
We are looking for a team member who is organized, attentive, and makes students feel welcomed, understood, and that their needs are being met. Additionally, you will:
- Hold an Associate Degree or 2 years of related college coursework and at least 4 years' experience in business management, customer service, event planning or related area; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Utilize excellent communication (written and oral), people, problem solving, multitasking, time management, and organizational skills.
- Exercise discretion, resolve problems using sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrate fluency in Microsoft Office and MS Outlook.
If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications that we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include:
- Supervisory experience and familiarity with WorkDay.
- Experience with StarRez, Cornell's residential management tool.
- Experience working with budgets and knowledge of Cornell procurement and accounting systems.
- Experience with graphic design. Canva, Adobe Photoshop, etc.
- Experience with basic web page and Learning Management System maintenance and familiarity with Drupal, Appspace, Canvas LMS, and CampusPress (WordPress for education)
- Strong internet and social media skills for information gathering, social media marketing, and program support.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting AV equipment.
- Familiarity with a higher education environment.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
