This position works a hybrid remote format (schedule to be determined), which requires a telecommuting agreement and adherence to the UCSC Telecommuting/Remote Work Guidelines. The employee shall be available in a full-time capacity during assigned telecommuting work hours (specific hours to be discussed with supervisor). While telecommuting/remote working, the employee is responsible for ensuring a worksite environment suitable for accomplishing their regular job duties during scheduled hours of work, as they would if they were working at the regular UCSC worksite.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Film and Digital Media major at UC Santa Cruz offers an integrated curriculum where students study the cultural impact of movies, television, video and the internet, while also producing creative work in video and interactive digital media.The department has 17 permanent faculty, 7 staff, and approximately 600 declared and proposed majors.
The Undergraduate Advisor for the Film and Digital Media department is responsible for the administration of all aspects of student academic advising and program coordination under the general direction of the Administrative Manager. Applies professional advising concepts to independently provide prescriptive advice on academic policies and procedures. Receives assistance on more complex issues. This is a 50% part-time position that works alongside one other full-time Film & Digital Media Undergraduate Advisor.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary: $26.87 - $28.55 / Hourly. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. Applying professional advising concepts, provides advice and assistance to individual undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds on all aspects of academic experience in Film & Digital Media, including monitoring progression and enrollments, major requirements, completion of degrees, academic options, special programs, creative problem resolution, campus and department policies and practices, etc.
35% - Student Services
Responsible for a variety of student services to independently provide prescriptive advice and assistance to students. Identifies student needs for programs and services, and refers to academic and non-academic resources as appropriate. Communicates and exchanges information with other units, develops and distributes clearly articulated communications and interacts with prospective and current students for a variety of purposes through multiple media channels, develops and leads student programs and workshops. Develops, implements, and consults in support of student success, retention, and graduation.
10% - Recruitment & Admissions
Develops and implements outreach programs; advises prospective applicants on necessary academic preparation and appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals; reviews domestic transcripts for degree eligibility. Conducts new student orientations.
20% - General Administration & Planning Support
Represents student interests to leadership and department, represents the department on relevant committees; coordinates annual catalog updates and course approvals; advises management and department on student-related policies and practices, advises and participates in course scheduling; independently develops, implements, and utilizes relevant data tracking and reporting; supervises peer advising program; completes special projects as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Demonstrated skills in judgment and decision-making, problem identification and resolution, critical thinking.
Strong written communication skills in multiple media formats.
Strong verbal communication skills, including active listening.
Skills in service orientation.
Demonstrated research, statistical, and analytical skills with ability to recall, retrieve, and communicate detailed information quickly, accurately, and clearly both verbally and in writing.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
Will be required to work a hybrid work schedule, days of the week and number of days to be determined, and be able to fulfill requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
