Department Description
The Arts Group Advising Center serves the undergraduate programs in the following departments Art and Art History, Cinema and Digital Media, Design, Music and Theatre & Dance. The Undergraduate Advising Center is responsible for advising, recruitment and retention, program planning, coordination and administration of undergraduate student affairs. There are a total of 1500 students in 6 undergraduate majors. This position reports to the undergraduate programs manager.
Job Summary
Under general supervision, serve as an adviser in The Arts Group Undergraduate Advising Center. Independently provide comprehensive, advanced advising on a wide range of often complex issues concerning undergraduate students in departmental majors and support faculty members. Work with faculty on program development and administration. Implement the departmental undergraduate advising programs, student support services, interpret and implement academic programs and policies, and supervise undergraduate peer advising staff. Manage quality assessment and policy development.

Experience counseling and advising students at the university/college level; instructing students in academic planning, course selection, policies and procedures. Skills to facilitate student learning, development, and success, and to support students' decision making regarding their educational, career, and life goals.
Experience working with diverse student populations including, but not limited to, students with diverse abilities, racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic backgrounds and religions; ability to effectively address the advising needs of historically underrepresented and minoritized students.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
Organizational, time management and decision-making skills to work independently and accurately under pressure and productively despite frequent interruptions; to work with ambiguities where clear guidelines are not available; to process detailed work accurately and in a timely manner; and to successfully manage multiple priorities in a complex work environment and meet deadlines.
Effective interpersonal communication and listening skills to interact in a culturally inclusive and respectful manner with students, parents/guardians/families, faculty, administrators, staff, and the general public; and to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by telephone. Ability to communicate effectively while addressing urgent, confidential, and highly sensitive matters with discretion and sensitivity.
Skills to make presentations to individuals and groups.
Writing, editing and proofreading skills to answer correspondence, write reports and develop informational materials.
Analytical and research skills to obtain, correlate and analyze data and develop statistics from a variety of campus sources; and to retrieve and assemble information for the preparation of reports, schedules, correspondence etc.

Master's degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Sociology or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience hiring, onboarding, training, supervising, developing and motivating student employees.
Experience designing and implementing student services and programming/recruitment/outreach in a way that is culturally responsive, inclusive, and equitable.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
Knowledge of statewide, national and international college and university programs and resources.
