Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I is an entry level advising position. Under direct supervision, the Advisor I will be engaged in academic advising activities that support UA at the institution or college level.
Additional Department Summary: The Pre-Health Advisor provides guidance and assistance to undergraduate students interested in pursuing medical school or professional health programs beyond their undergraduate degrees. Facilitates the transition from high school to professional school for students interested in health professions. Supports students in exploring relevant co-curricular opportunities, making the appropriate academic preparations, and fulfilling the requirements of their degree. Cultivates relationships with health professionals in the local community and with admissions deans at nearby medical, dental, and other health professional schools. Prepares composite recommendation letters and conducts Admissions interviews with pre-professional students. Advises pre-professional student organizations.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and some experience. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work with a diverse population. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Public speaking skills. Computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management. Good planning, coordinating, and organizing skills. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree
