Summary of Position Keene State College invites applications for the position of Director of Athletics. The College is seeking a dynamic visionary and experienced athletics leader and administrator who will provide strategic and operational leadership to the Division III intercollegiate athletics programs. The successful candidate will build upon Keene State College’s success as one of the premier public athletics departments in New England, winning 16 straight Little East Conference Commissioner’s Cups. The successful candidate will enter at a time of investment and growth and will lead the institution in creating future structures to best leverage our facilities and advance our student athlete experience.
Reporting to the President, the Director of Athletics will be responsible for planning, implementing, and administering a program of intercollegiate athletics, consisting of more than 18 sports classified in Division III of the NCAA with an annual operating budget of over 3 million dollars. Master’s degree and a minimum of five years’ experience in higher education; intercollegiate athletic administration experience; demonstrated experience with budgets, compliance, and fundraising; knowledge and practice of facility and programmatic risk management; proven administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills; and demonstrated proficiency with computer applications including MS Office.
Additional Preferred Qualifications A terminal degree or J.D/L.L.B. degree; experience with student athlete development, athletics, and recreational fitness/student affairs. Additionally, the College has identified desirable qualifications that support our commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse campus community including the ability to speak a second language or to bring a multicultural perspective to the campus.

Provide leadership and supervision to athletics leveraging the current senior athletics leadership team, department personnel, including administrative staff, head coaches of over 18 sport programs, sports information staff, and athletic training staff. Oversee the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
Develop and manage all departmental, team and special events budgets. Consideration and recommendation regarding integration of campus recreation and fitness is a first priority for the athletic director.
Assure compliance with all NCAA, Little East Conference and Title IX rules and regulations; maintain active participation in Little East Conference and NCAA meetings, regional seminars on Title IX/Gender Equity and NCAA rules compliance seminars.
Serve as the Little East liaison for assisted sport; serve on national and regional committees.
Represent the College’s athletic program regarding community outreach events, marketing and promotion efforts, and fundraising activities in collaboration with the Advancement Division.
Collaborate closely with Advancement and Alumni Relations to direct, lead, and foster coherence and growth of all athletics fundraising activities.
Demonstrate a continued commitment to meaningful collaboration, diversity, and the ability to think creatively to ensure that the purpose of the intercollegiate athletics programs remains consistent with the mission of the College.
Ensure and maintain a respectful, supportive environment conducive to the student’s athletic, academic, and personal development and achievement.
Lead and manage the coordination of internal and external operations related to scheduling, travel, competition and event, and facilities use. Ensure effective implementation of policies pertaining to outside group use of facilities. Update and continually seek new ways to improve departmental web site.
Establish priorities and provide vision for new facilities construction and renovation of current facilities.
