Michigan State University’s Office of the Registrar (RO) is seeking a champion for student service and success. The Assistant Registrar directs and manages the daily operations of the primary student-facing teams within the RO: Customer Service and VA School Certifying Officials. As a member of the RO management team, this individual is directly involved in developing office-wide goals, policies, and procedures that impact the entire MSU community.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES – RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises, evaluates, and reviews the performance of six to eight full-time support staff
Manages the MSU School Certifying Official (SCO) team and serves as an additional SCO
Understands and interprets VA policies, rules, and regulations to ensure MSU’s compliance with multiple VA educational benefit programs and regulatory requirements
Fulfills required VA and military federal and state reporting requests and requirements
Liaison to various VA affiliated offices, such as the Veterans Benefit Administration Regional Office
Oversees the ongoing training and development of the RO main customer service unit
Assists the Enrollment and Academic Strategic Planning unit with the transition of RO student-facing customer service to the new MSU One-Stop.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college program in Business, Personnel Administration or Management; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in computer systems and procedure applications and/or records management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
An earned bachelor’s degree; five years of progressively more responsible or expansive professional work experience, including at least three years of supervisory experience in a higher education setting; demonstrated experience in higher education related information systems; knowledge of local, state, and federal veteran’s programs and education benefits; knowledge of VA Enrollment Manager; demonstrated ability to organize and manage work and meet deadlines; demonstrated ability to establish relationships and collaborate collegially and effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, administration, and the community; demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically; prior VA SCO experience
