The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.

WashU’s Department of Campus Life is looking for an individual that has a strong background in advising and supervising to join our Leadership Team. The Associate Director for Student Involvement serves an important role in meeting the mission of the Department of Campus Life in creating an environment of success for student groups and the activities they sponsor at Washington University. This management role serves on the Campus Life Leadership Team as an advocate and resource for staff working with Student Union (the undergraduate student government) and other University recognized student groups (approximately 450). It is essential this position establish strong and credible relationships to assist student groups in creating, implementing, and evaluating their values, mission, programs and activities as they align with the University mission. In addition, this position oversees the implementation of a campus wide student involvement initiative.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for developing and supervising a team of professional and graduate staff to create an environment of success for all student groups and the programs they sponsor at Washington University.
Advise the Student Union (WashU Student Government) This includes the Executive Council, Executive officers, Senate and the Election Commission. Provide training and advisement of organization initiatives and support of other SU Entities.
Implement and maintain the expectations for advisement of student groups, their leaders, and programming efforts within Campus Life and campus wide. This includes oversight of needs- based approach to student group advising (GPS Advising), student group/Campus Life policy and student group conduct processes.
Oversee the implementation of a campus wide student involvement initiative/campaign. This includes data, assessment, marketing and resources for campus on topics of involvement and engagement.
Support, attend, and participate in the leadership team efforts for Campus Life, including staff development, mission and vision definition, and representation on various committees or at special events, including those on evenings and weekends.
Guide the development of resources for student groups through designing and facilitating workshops, retreats, discussions or training sessions as needed.
Serve as the primary liaison with the campus software (Presence) utilized to administer the co-curricular portfolio and student group management including the oversight of the Washington University Group Organizer (WUGO).
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Campus Life.
Five to eight years post-graduate experience within higher education.
Strong advising and supervisor experience.
Demonstrated experience with management of a multifaceted budget.
Demonstrated experience in student program planning and implementation.
Demonstrated experience in working with undergraduate student governments.
Demonstrated experience working with Residential Life, Orientation, Admissions, Student Conduct offices.
Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.
An understanding of college student development theory its application and assessment.
Initiative, self-direction, and organization.
Comprehension of current issues related to higher education including student involvement, leadership, multiculturalism, diversity, programming, and student development.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Energy, creativity, and organizational skills.
Above average competencies in word processing, email, and Excel spreadsheets.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Experience in working with social programming, events, and activities.
Flexibility for evening and weekend hours.
Bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience or Master’s degree and three years of related experience.
