We are seeking a Staff Psychiatrist-Casual who will focus primarily on providing psychiatric services for graduate and professional students, trainees, postdoctoral fellows, and house staff on the East Baltimore campus. Reporting to the Director of Psychiatry, this staff member will provide initial psychiatric evaluations, medication management visits, and consultation. The successful candidate will consult and work collaboratively with colleagues to provide culturally competent, evidence-based care. It is anticipated that the person in this position may occasionally provide psychiatric services at other clinic locations in Baltimore when coverage needs arise. This position is scheduled for 16 hours per week.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.
- Provides psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication evaluations and follow-ups.
- Assists with crisis/urgent referrals and supports transitions to higher levels of care.
- Provides emergency clinical coverage when needed, as well as rotations in the after-hours on call system (backup to ProtoCall).
- Participates in care coordination with therapists, primary care, and other JH resources.
- Participates in and contributes to committees, peer supervision, and other required staff activities.
- Exercises independent medical judgment consistent with approved, evidence-based methods according to specialty and in the best interest of patients.
- Demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in clinical work and all professional activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
- Experience working with diverse populations is strongly preferred. Examples include members of the LGBTQ+ community, communities of color, historically under-served or marginalized populations, individuals on the Autism spectrum or identifying as neurodivergent, and international students/learners.
- Clinical experience in the outpatient setting within a university is preferred, with a focus on treating issues prevalent within student/learner population is strongly preferred. Examples include anxiety, mood disorders, co-occurring substance use disorders, sleep disorders, and ADHD.
- Commitment to actively engage in practice with diverse populations, and to one's own ongoing development of multicultural competence as a professional.

- Casual staff may work no more than 987 hours in a 12mo period. A minimum of 16 hours per week is required for this role. Casual staff are not eligible for University benefits and do not accrue vacation or sick time nor receive holiday pay.
- Schedule: 16 hours per week (not including lunch break), not to exceed 987 hours in 12-month period. Clinic is open Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.; some after-hours and weekend work is expected based on the programmatic needs of the University during the academic year (e.g. orientation, special events, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. Degree from an accredited medical school.
- All residency and post-graduate training must be from accredited programs.
- Board Certified in psychiatry or Board Eligible. If Board Eligible, must be prepared to certify within a year of hire.
- Unrestricted license to practice in Maryland; complete sufficient continuing medical education credits to satisfy Maryland medical license / license renewal requirements on an ongoing basis.
- Psychiatrist shall have DEA Certification and State of Maryland Controlled Substance (CDS) Certification. Psychiatrist must be credentialed at Johns Hopkins Hospital prior to start date.
- Completion of an accredited residency in psychiatry with 3 years of experience in independent practice.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
