Job Duties:
The ECU, College of Nursing is currently seeking applications for a full-time , senior academic officer to serve as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs provides administrative leadership, oversight, and coordination of BSN, MSN, DNP and PhD programs. This is a line-position accountable to the Dean. The primary functions in this position concern management of the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of undergraduate and graduate programs in the College of Nursing.
Specific responsibilities include: Leadership/Administration (40%)
Assists the Dean with accreditation and other reports. Generates data for program approval, evaluation, and accreditation.
Provides a liaison function in the management of resources related to undergraduate and graduate programs.
Administers university/program policies and procedures.
Collaborates with Department Chairs, program directors, and Student Services staff in the maintenance and management of record systems and computerized tracking of students.
Participates in student and faculty recruitment, and in appointment, reappointment, tenure, and promotion of faculty in accord with the East Carolina University Faculty Manual.
Participates in faculty workload assignments in collaboration with Department Chairs, Program Directors, and Associate Deans.
Promotes and maintains effective working relationships with College of Nursing standing committees.
Serves as a resource to standing and ad hoc committees of the College of Nursing faculty.
Provides academic counseling and conflict resolution for students enrolled in a nursing program as appropriate.
Serves as liaison with the community through participation in community groups and responds to community needs relevant to nursing education.
Represents the College of Nursing on ECU committees and task forces as requested.
Other duties as assigned by the Dean or University administration.
Serves as designee representing the Dean as requested.
Programs and Curriculum Oversight (30%)
Provides oversight of the BSN, MSN, DNP and PhD programs: planning, development, implementation, and evaluation
Schedules academic offerings to ensure quality and consistency across programs and departments.
Provides oversight to assure compliance with university policies, and requirements of external agencies.
Provides leadership in curriculum development.
Partnerships/Collaborations (internal and external) (20%)
Collaborates with college, university administrators and faculty and university curriculum committees in reviewing, modifying, enhancing, and marketing the undergraduate and graduate programs.
Collaborates with the Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Executive Director of Business and Administrative Affairs, Executive Director of Program Evaluation, Student Services, technology staff, and IPAR in the collection, management and distribution of student, clinical, and academic data for planning and coordinating program evaluation.
Collaborates with community partners to enter into academic-practice partnerships to identify strategic opportunities that mutually benefit both organizations, especially in terms of strengthened student experiences, transition of students into practice at all levels, and recruitment of graduates at all levels. The goal of all collaborations is to improve the health of the people in Eastern North Carolina.
Strategic Planning (5%)
Work with the Dean and College of Nursing Executive Team in developing the College Strategic Plan in line with the Strategic Plan of the University.
Continually evaluate the College of Nursing Strategic Plan for meeting goals and assessing for needs for revisions and updates.
Scholarship (5%)
Participates in scholarly activities and professional services as required of members of university faculty community.
Mentors and supports scholarly endeavors for fixed-term faculty

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Minimum Education/Experience:
Earned doctorate in nursing or in related field plus a master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution; prior teaching and administrative experience in a baccalaureate or higher degree program; credentials for approval as full graduate faculty appointment; eligibility for tenure at the Associate Professor or Professor rank; expertise in writing grant proposals and conducting research; teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level; demonstrated academic administrative competency; and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Nurse faculty members shall hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina or a compact state and if employed after July 1, 1992, shall have had a minimum of 2 calendar years prior, full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse. Holds current Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) certification and/or has education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
