Departmental Overview
The SEED Scholars Honors Program is a unit in the Division of Equity and Inclusion that assists in the recruitment, retention and graduation of students who will enrich the diversity of STEM programs on the Berkeley campus. This involves providing academic and holistic support for these students while also working with the campus community to promote diversity and excellence at every level. The unit's primary responsibilities include providing enhanced access and mentorship, confidential advising, longitudinal and high touch services through a holistic support services program that facilitates the success of high achieving, historically underrepresented students in STEM fields. SEED Scholars Honors Program provides a holistic network that prepares outstanding undergraduates to become change-makers, scholars, and leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math and thereby increases the representation of historically underrepresented individuals in academia and other STEM professions. The program focuses on high achieving students with an interest in conducting research and who aspire to become leading research scientists and engineers. The program is open to students of all backgrounds and is committed to increasing the representation of minorities in science and engineering. As an integral member of the SEED Scholars Honors Program team, the incumbent is expected to collaborate closely with partner STEM scholar programs campus wide as well as with partner institutions; UC San Diego, University of Maryland,University of North Carolina, Howard University and Pennsylvania State University to achieve our collective goal of recruiting, retaining, and preparing underrepresented students for graduate studies and careers in STEM disciplines.

Responsibilities
Handles most complex/sensitive multicultural, academic counseling across disciplines and colleges/schools to 'at risk' populations (e.g., low-income, first-generation college, underrepresented populations, etc.).
Incorporating a variety of theoretical approaches, the incumbent manages a caseload of students from post-admission through graduation.
Conducts a comprehensive assessment/analysis of students' needs and develops a plan of action to enhance students' academic success.
Provides solutions and alternatives to problem areas.
Independently plans, develops, and administers specialized and complex programs and projects that are designed to enhance student success.
Establishes and implements short and long-term program goals and objectives.
Supports the management of program funds.
Assists in the facilitation of SEED staff meetings, including occasional follow-ups with staff members.
Contributes to the selection, onboarding, and training of SEED staff.
Assists in the writing of annual reports and contributes to the growth and sustainability of services provided to SEED scholars.
Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external organization stakeholders critical to program success.
Collaborations, Thought Partnerships, and Expertise Sharing:
Facilitates informational workshops on the needs and experiences of high-achieving underserved populations at conferences, symposia, and colloquiums.
Develops and implements specialized curriculum designed to meet the specific needs of SEED scholars.
Coordinates and facilitates retention workshops in collaboration with campus resources (Student Learning Center, Engineering Student Services, and Basic Needs Initiative).
Collaborates with academic departments, faculty, and other student services leaders to help resolve student-specific academic issues.
Works collaboratively with staff, faculty, administrators, alumni, and students to explore/research innovative approaches to meeting the needs of a diverse and changing student body.
Represents the unit in campuswide initiatives and within the division.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated competencies and advanced knowledge in theories of multicultural counseling, learning, identity development, and human and career development.
Knowledge and experience in working with historically underrepresented ethnic minority communities, and first-generation college students.
Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement, such as collaborative teaching / learning models, strategies for effective counseling and peer mentoring, small group facilitation and training, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy.
Knowledge of and experience in conflict management and intervention strategies.
Advanced experience in group dynamics, facilitation, and training; comprehensive assessment of academic preparation and personal competencies.
Knowledge of academic curricula; strong knowledge of campus climate, structure/organizations, and culture.
Demonstrated experience in planning, developing, and administering evaluative instruments for measuring program effectiveness.
Advanced experience in planning, developing, and administering enrichment programs/projects, academic and personal development seminars, courses, and workshops.
Knowledge and experience in researching, compiling, and analyzing data, and generating reports; extensive experience in developing evaluative instruments specific to programs/projects goals and objectives.
Knowledge in how to enhance students' intellectual and personal growth and development, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership.
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of research methodologies and research designs.
Extensive experience in multicultural competencies, and personal and academic crisis intervention; working with students to assist in the clarification of ethics and values.
Experience in establishing and implementing short and long-term program goals and objectives; demonstrated effectiveness in mediation and conflict resolution.
Knowledge and experience in managing funds designated for special programs.
Education/Training:
Master's degree in Education Psychology, Counseling, or Higher Education Administration and/or equivalent experience/training.
Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The full pay scale for this title code is $74,300.00 - $134,500.00. The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $83,000.00 - $93,000.00.
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
This position is exempt and paid monthly.
This is a hybrid position, eligible for 40% remote capability.
