The Assistant Director of Residential Education, reporting to the Director of Residential Education or the Senior Associate Director of Residential Education, is a twelve-month fiscal year-round, live-out, University staff position. This person will participate as a member of the Residential Education Management Team; provide leadership and oversight for an on-campus residential district; oversee a collateral assignment related to Residential Education; participate in long-range and strategic departmental planning; provide crisis management and assistance as required. Duties & Responsibilities:
Supervise, train, and evaluate 4-6 Community Directors, Assistant Community Directors, and/or up to 2 Coordinators, directly or indirectly supervise from one to four Graduate Community Directors or administrative assistants.
Manage day-to-day functions and long-range planning for a residential district of approximately 1,500-2,500 residents.
Direct work related to collateral assignments, committees, and projects such as; Professional and Graduate Staff.
Recruitment, Student Staff Recruitment, Professional Staff Training and Development, Graduate Staff Training and Development, Student Staff Training, and Desk Operations.
Contribute to development, implementation, and assessment of Wildcat Living residential curriculum; work with Community Director staff to ensure implementation within dorms.
Assist Community Directors in the growth and development of Living Learning communities and other campus partnerships.
Support the Student Behavioral Education unit by assisting Community Directors to navigate departmental processes related to conduct and care; serve as an appeals officer.
Collaborate with various Housing units (e.g., Human Resources, Housing Assignment Services, Desk Operations, Finance and Business, and Housing Facilities Operations) to support Community Directors in the efficient completion of their duties.
Coordinate with departmental units to develop new initiatives, analyze current practices, and ensure effective collaboration between areas.
Work effectively with parents and students to resolve conflicts and issues.
Provide crisis management when necessary, collaborating with the Dean of Students Office, University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD), and other University/Community partners.
Serve on campus-wide “Manager on-Duty” rotation acting as a resource to Community Director staff.
Manage a $100,000+ budget within residential district.
Meet with supervisor, supervisees, Residential Education Management Team, District team, and Residential Education Unit on a regular basis.
Stay current on issues, trends, and research in the field of student development.
Apply assessment skills, including interpreting research and statistical analysis of various data.
Provide training and professional development opportunities for residential education staff, RAs, and Community Directors on an annual and ongoing basis.
Serve on departmental committees and represent Housing on University Committees as assigned.
Assist with various activities during the August move-in process.
Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet Housing and University goals and objectives.
The incumbent is expected to use a personal cell phone for emergency and crisis related calls when not specifically the Manager on Duty. When they are the Manager on duty, they carry a department cell phone for such incidents.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability in organizing and facilitating student personnel programs, staff supervision, and operational responsibilities in residence halls.
Knowledge and understanding of diversity and an ability to work with a wide variety of people while recognizing the needs of students with an underrepresented or oppressed identity.
Basic knowledge and understanding of assessment and evaluation in student affairs.
Knowledge of personnel management, including the selection, training, supervision and evaluation of professional, Graduate, and paraprofessional staff.
Skills necessary to respond to internal and external customer needs in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
Ability to make effective decisions both collaboratively and independently.
Ability to address student concerns by working with campus partners.
Ability to conduct assessment and evaluation of housing services and programs, interpret and report data, compare data to bench marking results and stay current in trends of research in the field.

Knowledge of facilities management, including the day-to-day custodial and maintenance operations in dorms.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel Administration, Counseling, or a related field.
Three years of full-time, professional experience in housing and residential life to include two years of supervisory/management experience (two years of graduate experience in housing and residential life can be counted as one year full time experience).
Valid Driver's License and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
Five or more years of full-time, professional experience in housing and residential life.
Experience supervising Graduate or full-time staff
