The Assistant Director for Graduate Student Career Development assists in developing the overall departmental strategy for graduate student career engagement and program development. The Assistant Director specializes in providing career guidance and support to graduate students and alumni through individual appointments, group sessions and career-related workshops and programming.

|Responsibilities: || |
Specific responsibilities include:
- Provide in-person and virtual career coaching/counseling to current graduate students and alumni
- Research and maintain up-to-date knowledge and information about appropriate career fields for advanced degree holders
- Administer and interpret career and education decision-making assessments including the MBTI and Focus 2 during one-on-one career coaching appointments
- Assess, leverage and market emerging technologies to scale graduate student career coaching and professional development including the usage of Big Interview, the Career Center’s interview training module
- Review, update and manage Career Center website resources focused on graduate students along with maintaining the major resources area of the website
- Foster relationships and collaborations with various campus partners, including Graduate Program Directors to increase graduate student engagement efforts and leverage resources to promote their career skills development
- Lead departmental efforts with the development of workshops and modules aimed to prepare masters and doctoral students to guide them through their career development and/or career transition process
- Spearhead partnerships with faculty, staff, alumni and employers to develop, coordinate and promote career exposure activities (panels, speakers and networking events) across graduate programs including the Career Paths for Graduate Students event
- Provide assistance with the Keys to Success practicum course for on campus student employment
- Manage and oversee weekly career blogs and newsletter submissions
- Support Center and Graduate School departmental strategies to enhance graduate students' employment outcomes by leading and assisting with programs/special projects, contributing to discussions and serving on committees
- Collect and analyze data on graduate student engagement and first destination career outcomes of recent degree recipients with advanced degrees
Requires occasional evening and weekend hours for student/alumni appointments and events.
|Required Minimum Qualifications: || |
- Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Student Personnel, Human Resources or a related field
- At least two years of experience providing career counseling, advising or coaching
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present and/or facilitate informative and engaging career programs
|Preferred Qualifications: || |
- Minimum of three years of experience working with graduate students from diverse backgrounds, including international students
- Prior experience working in higher education
- Proven ability to coordinate and facilitate virtual counseling appointments and career seminars
- Excellent counseling and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in teams with a diverse group of internal and external contacts
- Solid level of comfort presenting to both large and small groups, both in-person and online
- Knowledge of social media, especially LinkedIn, as well as job market trends for advanced degree holders
- Strong problem solving, communication, time management and multitasking abilities
- Knowledge of a strength-based approach to career advising
- Knowledge of career assessments, including MBTI certified
- Solid computer/technical skills including knowledge of online career management systems such as Handshake, as well as video conference platforms (such as WebEx)
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion to create a sense of belonging and address historic and systemic inequities for student success
