Job Description:
The Student Services Advisor provides academic, admissions, career, financial aid, and transfer advising services to prospective and current students at Minnesota West Community & Technical College to assist them in continuing their college progression.
DUTIES & RESPONSILBITIES:
Provide advising services to current and returning students to ensure students are served.
Plan, organize, and implement new in person and virtual student registration and college enrollment activities, orienting prospective and current students to the College.
Lead new student registration and orientation activities to ensure that all students receive accurate information
Functions as the college-widecoordinator of the office of accessibility and disability services. Collects appropriate documentation including assisting completion of accommodation plans; tracks and reviews reasonable accommodations for students each semester; ensures an inclusive and equitable environment for students; reports disability activities in ISRS for state reporting purposes
Track and report on advisees' academic progress, identify at-risk students and develop and implement academic recovery plans and retention strategies to ensure student retention and successful completion of their academic programs.
Collaborate with academic deans and regional industry partners to provide outreach that supportsupscaling credentialing opportunities of incumbent workers and workforce.
Engage students and campus community to support events, activities, and initiatives that promote and foster an environment of access, equity, and inclusion.
Perform other duties as assigned, including committees or special projects work and ongoing professional development, to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the college as a viable business partner.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in student personnel or related field.
Experience working with students from diverse and traditionally underserved backgrounds and with varied needs
Knowledge of community resources sufficient to locate resources to address students, including counselors, housing, food, etc. services.
Knowledge of computer software applications and systems sufficient to enter data and create basic business correspondence, documents and training presentations.
Ability to assess students' needs and identify applicable resources.
Ability to interpret institutional, state and federal policies and regulations and translate them into advising procedures and processes.
Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with peers at other higher educational institutions sufficient to secure knowledge of applicable transfer issues and degree articulation agreements.
Ability to organize multiple tasks, initiate actions and work independent.
Communication skills, both oral and written in individual and group settings via phone or in person, sufficient to motivate students and influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around and work with colleagues in a cooperative and respectful manner.
Strong commitment to the value of education for all individuals.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledgeable about Minnesota West C&TC academic programs, curriculum, student services, resources, policies and procedures sufficient to assist applicants and students in making sound career and educational decisions.
Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.
