POSITION DETAILS
Brooklyn College seeks applications for two Financial Aid Specialist/Asst. Director reporting to the Associate Director of Compliance and Operations, the Financial Aid Specialist/Asst. Director is responsible for the oversight of the advisement or general student services in the Office of Financial Aid. The Assistant Directors will manage a team of staff to ensure efficient and courteous student interactions.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Financial Aid Specialist's duties include but are not limited to:
Supervise full and part time employees.
Manage a team of full and part-time staff to ensure efficient and quality service to students.
Assign advisor caseloads.
Ensure advisor caseloads and programs are up to date and properly reconciled.
Manage the transition to the EAB platform for advisement and leverage the system to coordinate advisement appointments and student outreach.
Manage the implementation of the professional judgement process and coordinate second level reviews as appropriate.
Create a suite of student information packets to improve information delivery.
Manage the development of reports and data to inform decision making.
Work with the Assoc. Director to implement policy changes and communicate changes to staff.
Work closely with the Student Financials Call Center, the Enrollment Services Center, and other student service offices to assist students.
Participate in the development and implementation of a service excellence mission for the Student Financials area.
Work closely with staff to streamline and document all area processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Vaccine Mandate
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience, or background working in a higher education, or other academic environment preferred or film industry or general operations.
Excellent verbal and written communication and computer skills.
Strong management and organizational skills essential.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment, troubleshoot problems and take initiative as needed.
Knowledge of PeopleSoft/Oracle-based systems, including CUNYfirst, a plus but not required.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Administers and supervises financial aid programs and operations.
Reviews contracts, disbursements, tuition and fees; validates student eligibility for various programs
Administers, monitors and troubleshoots CUNY financial aid systems as well as Federal and NY State systems in order to ensure integrity of student databases and timely and accurate delivery of funds
Assists CUNY staff, applicants, and students/families with advice on financial aid issues and eligibility
May review and reconcile student payroll processing
Represents the Financial Aid function at Admissions events; works with academic departments as well as Bursar, Registrar, Admissions and Computing offices to assure staff understand and implement financial aid processes correctly
Assists in the development and evaluation of Admissions processes
Prepares documentation, instructions, and materials in various media to support financial aid activities
Performs related duties as assigned.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
