The Director of Student Governance & Leadership provides leadership for and oversight of all operations and programs for the student government on campus (the Associated Students of the University of Utah- ASUU). The Director assists students and advisers in the planning, development, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of student government initiatives and programs. This role liaises with main campus departments and central administration and maintains strong partnerships across campus. The Director ensures that operations abide by appropriate university policies and procedures. The Director is responsible for providing vision and strategic direction for undergraduate and graduate student involvement with the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU).

University of Utah Job ID# PRN34778B 00321 - ASUU COMPENSATION: $70,000-$85,000 including an excellent benefits package. WORK SCHEDULE: M-F 8-5. Some weekends and nights.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Establish and maintain a high level of service to students that demonstrates the University’s commitment to a highly diverse and inclusive community. 2. Assists ASUU in regularly examining both the culture of the office (space) as well as the organizational culture. This may include measuring student satisfaction in order to create a sense of belonging, and addressing issues at a variety of levels using organizational change strategies and techniques. 3. Develop and administer related budgets within university guidelines and confer with students and management staff to plan and implement a variety of funding and revenue generating student activities and outreach. This includes but is not limited to administration of the Student Activity Fee, totaling approximately $1.8 million annually. This includes high level financial approvals, monthly Evidence of Review, and more. 4. Provide leadership and direction regarding University of Utah policy, procedures, and regulations and the ASUU Constitution, Bylaws, and related procedures. 5. Advise the ASUU Presidency, providing regular support and opportunities to think developmentally about leadership styles and skillsets. In addition, work with student leaders to determine Director presence and involvement at ASUU student-led meetings throughout the year. Select, train, supervise, and evaluate the work of assigned professional and graduate assistant staff, currently seven full time professionals and three graduate assistants. 6. Evaluate, assess, and develop program components related to the student activities, ASUU, and research best practices and professional standards pertaining to executing student government advising, and student-led programming. 7. Represent the University of Utah at appropriate conferences, workshops, meetings, programs and other activities. 8. Develop strategic and creative methods to incorporate student input and feedback in new programming and policies. 9. In collaboration with ASUU student leaders, develop and implement comprehensive and strategic plans to market and promote new and existing programs, opportunities, and services within student government. 10. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.

PREFERENCES: • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Educational Leadership and Policy, or a related area strongly preferred. • Experience with student advising, and student development/leadership theories and models. • Proven leadership in engaging and mobilizing diverse constituencies. • Excellent problem-solving, communication, supervisory and organizational skills. • Experience with analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, and group dynamics. • Ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion. • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision. • Proficiency with centralized systems for procurement, travel, and accounting.
