The Athletics Department at Marist College invites applications for a full-time, 12-month position as Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach II. The assistant coach's primary responsibility will be the identification, research of, and communication with prospective student-athletes during the calendar year. This will include coordination of staff recruitment plans and efforts. The assistant coach will participate in the preparation, coordination, and execution of practice & game plans during the academic year. The assistant coach will also assist in the academic, personal, and career mentoring of student-athletes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Experience playing and/or coaching NCAA basketball. Some knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing collegiate athletics.
Essential Functions:
Recruit athletes to Marist College by: Actively monitoring and evaluating student-athletes in the transfer portal. Developing relationships with prospective student-athletes, coaches, parents, and other individuals associated with prospective student-athletes. Researching the tournaments, showcases, high school games, tryouts, and other relevant recruiting opportunities of prospective student-athletes. Preparing and coordinating the recruiting calendar and accommodations in accordance with the NCAA, MAAC, and institution regulations. Evaluating prospective student-athletes by traveling to tournaments, showcases, high school games, tryouts, and other relevant recruiting opportunities during permissible recruiting periods. Conducting appropriate communication with coaches, prospective student-athletes, and parents. Coordinating and executing official and unofficial visits to campus for prospective student-athletes and their families. Active participant in all NCAA rules education programs. Provide mentoring to student-athletes inside and outside of practice on their academic, personal, civic, and career aspirations for the future. Assist the Head Coach in developing the game strategy and designing effective and efficient training and practices for both the team and individual student-athlete by: Formulating effective game plans for competition. Conducting individual and small group training sessions. Conducting comprehensive film review from practices and games. Preparing daily team practice plans. Working games and practices. Assist in other tasks as assigned by Head Coach and Athletic Director. Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree. Previous experience in Division I college basketball coaching. Recruiting strongly preferred.
