This position will be responsible for collaborating with institutional clients to develop communication plans and provide strategic content on behalf of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. This role will support academic and student programming generally, including:
Recruitment for undergraduate programs across 12 CANR departments and for the Institute for Agricultural Technology
Promotion of faculty research/accomplishments in support of defined strategic objectives
Specific job duties include, but are not limited to:
Serving as a resource within the CANR community for communications knowledge and expertise
Building relationships with institutional clients in a proactive manner
Collaborating with institutional clients to develop customized communication strategies and content calendars to meet unit objectives
Developing promotional collateral: web content, publications, brochures, e-newsletters, digital campaigns and videos
Writing and distributing articles, including student profiles, faculty research stories and press releases
Analyzing analytics for communication tactics and conducting testing to optimize engagement
Directing collaborative creative work with designers, videographers, photographers, vendors
Creating social media campaigns and content as needed
Providing support for CANR events
Pitching stories as appropriate for campus and broader media distribution
The position will also produce content in support of CANRs Office of Student Affairs, International Programs and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as needed. The position is under the direct supervision of the Director of Communications and Marketing for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Telecommunications, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations; composing, editing and publication production; news, broadcasting, and print media; and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation or radio production; or computer programming/technology; and/or experience in a field related to are of employment; may require management and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in relationship-building and providing client support required; previous experience in higher education preferred. A successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills and will work with a wide range of stakeholders: faculty, student groups, staff members, outside industry leaders and the MSU communicator community. Must write quick, clean copy and manage competing priorities.
