Reporting to the Associate Director of Career Engagement, the Events & Recruiting Specialist is responsible for managing a portfolio of recruiting events designed to create opportunities for students to foster meaningful connections with industry and alumni. This professional serves as the initial point of contact for employers seeking to recruit UCSC students and will liaise with administrators and staff to collaboratively develop and execute a campus engagement strategy with companies, organizations, and alumni across all industries. The Events & Recruiting Specialist provides consultation and leads coordinated efforts to meet employer recruitment needs and enables students from all majors to discover and prepare for career pathways. This role also provides event planning consultation to the career success team as they curate industry-specific experiences and connections for students. Additionally, this professional serves as a critical member of the marketing team and may supervise student employees in executing marketing strategy.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary: $64,692 - $67,400 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Manage a portfolio of recruiting events (career fairs, custom recruiting events, on-campus interviews, employer information sessions, etc.) by leading full-cycle event coordination and implementation which includes multiple months of advance planning and preparation and post-event debrief.
Identify and liaise with current and potential vendors in support of recruiting events and career engagement programs.
Collaborate with campus partners to maximize event impact on students and the institution.
Partner with campus colleagues to develop and produce event materials for all events, including a comprehensive program guide for recruiting events.
Delegate event preparation tasks to student and professional staff.
Develop event layouts, including placement of participating organizations.
Oversee career fair budget, employer registration processes, and communication for recruiting events.
Coordinate set up of events with vendors and campus partners, serving as point person for event implementation.
Lead recruiting events, contingency planning efforts and implementation.
Prepare evaluation processes for employers, students, and campus partners; leading change initiatives for future events.
Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and achieve learning outcomes.
30% - Campus and Industry Engagement
Serve as liaison between local and regional business communities and Career Success
Provide employers with recruiting consultation and timely follow up.
Enforce University and Career Success recruitment policies and guidelines.
Collaborate with the Career Success team to increase outreach and integration of employer and industry engagement events.
Assist the career success team with creating mechanisms to support connecting students of marginalized identities (for example- students of color, first-generation, students with disabilities, LGBTQIA) with alumni & employers.
Assist with a corporate partnership program such as coordination of on-campus partner events and other internal processes.
Monitor workplace, industry, and student interests, and engagement patterns and trends in order to guide programmatic initiatives with a lens for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Collaborate with the career engagement team to create a robust industry engagement plan.
Represent Career Success in a variety of university, community, industry associations, events, employer site visits/treks, for employer development and cultivation purposes.
15% - Marketing, Data Analysis, and Reporting
Serve as a contributing member of the marketing team and may directly supervise student assistants in executing marketing strategy.
Collect and analyze outcomes data in order to assure quality and improve student and industry (employer and alumni) engagement, preparing quarterly and annual reports as requested and as helpful to achieve Career Success goals.
5% - Continuous Benchmarking and University Representation
Ensure continuous enhancements through local, regional, and national benchmarking with event planning peers and robust industry networks.
Update position-related skills by participating in appropriate professional development offerings throughout the year.
Represent UCSC Career Success through active involvement and leadership in regional and national associations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
Demonstrates strong time management, attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to build new and enhance existing relationships with constituents inside or outside of an organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.
Experience in career services, development, recruiting, sales, public relations, marketing, event planning, or related fields.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
Must possess a valid license to drive in the state of California.
Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
The selected candidate will be required to work primarily on campus, with periods of remote work possible based on operational needs, and be able to fulfill requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
