At DMU you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of Medicine and Health Sciences. DMU is seeking a Multicultural Affairs Coordinator. This position supports the goals and objectives of the Diversity and Multicultural Affairs department with special emphasis on working closely with students, faculty, and staff to create a campus culture of inclusiveness. The Multicultural Affairs Coordinator provides overall assistance for the programs and trainings the department offers and supports the University’s commitment to diversity and inclusiveness as core institutional values. The Coordinator position will provide direct administrative support to the Assistant Director and Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) to include duties related to the day-to-day operations including typing, filing, photocopying, coordination of schedules, oversight of certain diversity related activities, mailings, taking incoming calls, assisting in planning, tracking, and coordinating special events.
What you’ll do:
Supports the Assistant Director in advising students and supporting student clubs, groups, and organization.
Provides support and encouragement for underrepresented students and serve as an advocate on issues, problems, and concerns.
Provides office inventory communication for use by the department of Multicultural Affairs
Provides administrative general administrative support to the Multicultural Affairs Department. This includes but is not limited to greeting and assisting external contacts; answering telephone calls, providing information to callers, routing calls to appropriate individuals and placing outgoing calls; scheduling appointments, arranging travel schedules and reservations; handling incoming/outgoing mail, and typing/preparing correspondence and/or reports.
Assist with the preparation (proofreading, editing) of marketing materials (letters, emails, posters, brochures).
Attend, and be visible and present in events and programs on campus and the local community that are relevant to the Diversity and Multicultural Affairs office.
What we’re looking for:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in related field i.e., social sciences, student development, social justice.
Minimum of three years’ direct experience with diversity services in an educational setting.
At least two years’ experience facilitating small groups.
Occasionally work on weekends and evenings.
Valid driver’s license
