The Coordinator of Recruitment and COSP will primarily support the Outreach and Recruitment Pillar of the Graduate School Diversity Office (GSDO) in its goal to recruit a diverse graduate student body to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (UMN) and the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD). The Coordinator will also assist the Community of Scholars Program (COSP), an award-winning GSDO retention program which serves all Native American and domestic students of color in UMN and UMD research-based graduate programs. This position will report directly to the GSDO Assistant Director of Outreach and Recruitment (AD-OR), and also provide support to the GSDO Assistant Director of Transition and Retention (AD-TR).
This is a 100%, 12-months, annually renewable appointment (classification 9702AN, Student Services Pro 2-Admissions).
JOB DUTIES: Outreach & Recruitment (70%):
Assist AD-OR to research, design, deliver, and assess high-impact GSDO recruitment events and initiatives.
Assist in the coordination of multi-college/program participation at recruitment events/fairs. Attend on-campus, regional, and national recruitment events/fairs to recruit underrepresented domestic students to UMN and UMD graduate programs.
Collaborate with the AD-OR to maintain current stellar programming and envision new and innovative programming for the GSDO Recruitment Ambassadors Program. Provide administrative support to the program: organize the selection process, training, work coordination, and assessment of graduate students serving as GSDO Recruitment Ambassadors, in partnership with AD-OR.
Manage logistics and execution of individual and group campus visit requests from colleges, undergraduate programs and prospective students.
Assist AD-OR in the planning, implementation, and assessment of the annual GSDO signature diversity recruitment events: McNair/TRIO SSS Summer Visitation Programs and the Diversity Conference and Graduate Fair (DCGF).
Lead the GSDO/Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) application fee waiver program process, and the promotion of the program to diverse applicants.
Manage GSDO Outreach and Recruitment email account.
Community of Scholars Program (25%):
Assist AD-TR in the delivery of high-impact retention programming for COSP Scholars.
Assist AD-TR in creating COSP event fliers, RSVP forms, calendar invitations, and other event logistical needs. Find creative ways to promote COSP to current and prospective campus constituents to increase visibility and participation.
Manage all COSP social media accounts to promote COSP and other events and resources.
Manage COSP Identity-Based Community (IBC) listservs with sign ups, removals, and keeping them active and engaging.
Organize and facilitate COSP-Affiliated Student Organizations Leadership Meetings.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned or necessary to advance the Graduate School and Graduate School Diversity Office missions (5%):
Understand and align work with the missions, visions, and values of the GS and GSDO.
Substantially contribute to GS meetings and committees as required or requested.
Substantially contribute to the GSDO Team. Actively participate in team meetings and work collaboratively in support of the GSDO’s goals of recruitment, transition, retention, and success for underrepresented graduate students.
Actively support all GS and GSDO events as needed or requested.
Actively and consistently pursue and participate in professional development opportunities to engage in continuous learning, growth, and development.
WORK MODE: Graduate School staff are currently working in a hybrid mode (some time remote and some time on campus) and are currently required to be on campus on Wednesdays (this arrangement is subject to change).
SALARY: The salary range for this position is $55,000-$57,000 depending on qualifications.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 2 years of experience working with college students or youth in an advisory, mentoring, event-planning, and/or educational capacity
This experience to include one year (including graduate assistantships) of experience working with underrepresented student or youth populations.
Exceptional writing, organization, facilitation, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency in the use of social media.
