Job Description The Educational Resource Center (ERC) seeks a Student Support Specialist. The Student Specialist is responsible for the development and maintenance of the ERCs academic skills support programs, as well as supporting the ERCs outreach efforts to students, faculty, and staff at Boston University. This role meets with undergraduate and graduate students in one-on-one and group settings to provide them with academic support. The student support specialist develops and delivers new and innovative programming to students. This position collaborates with faculty and staff in each of the individual schools and colleges. The student support specialist hires, trains, and supervises student staff. This role reports to the Assistant Director for Outreach.
The Student Support Specialists primary duties include:
Providing Academic Skills support for Undergraduate and Masters-level graduate students.
Meets with students in one-on-one and group settings to implement strategy-based approaches for enhancing students academic success (e.g., time management, study strategies, academic coaching, accountability study groups, and so forth).
Develops, delivers and administers academic skill-building workshops and programming (e.g., co-curriculars) for Undergraduate and Graduate audiences, including tailored programs for specific student audiences (e.g., first-year students, first-generation students, international students, students who have experienced academic difficulty).
Attends professional trainings and collaborates with units across the university to develop and refine offerings in line with evidence-based best practices.
With the Assistant Director for Academic Support and Outreach, assesses current academic support programming and responds to emerging needs by researching and developing new offerings.
Conducts and summarizes data collected from students and stakeholders on the usage, satisfaction, and efficacy of offered programs.
Collaborates with the Assistant Director for Outreach to create and disseminate print, digital, and social media resources to support students overall academic performance, including online workshops and videos, handouts, and self-assessment tools.
Tracks and assesses usage, satisfaction, and efficacy of these resources.
Works collaboratively with the ERC team and with other units in Undergraduate Affairs (e.g., Advising and Student Success, CTL) to partner on development and implementation of emerging special projects and other duties as assigned (e.g., analytical and organizational projects).
Collects and compiles qualitative and quantitative program utilization data for bi-monthly and semesterly reports.
Collaborates with ERC and Undergraduate Affairs leaders on the presentation and sharing of reports.
Required Skills A cover letter is required for consideration.
Bachelor's degree with 5-8 years of experience required, or a Master's with 3-5 years of experience preferred.
