Supervision Exercised: None. Salary: $48,000-$52,000 (To commensurate with education and experience)
General Statement of Duties: Under the leadership of the Director, TRIO Student Support Services Program, the Program Coordinator will assist program staff in creating, overseeing, evaluating, and evolving academic initiatives, programs and services, and other activities that will support the mission of a federally funded TRIO Student Support Services project in accordance with the U.S Department of Education approved grant. TRIO SSS programs support the academic, career, financial, and personal success of first-generation college students, students with low income, and students with documented disabilities with a goal of persistence to graduation and preparation for professional career entry or graduate/professional school participation.
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for developing comprehensive academic and personal action plans with project participants in order to support their academic adjustment, decision-making, academic achievement, and persistence. This Program Coordinator position will have a special focus on Community Development via the coordination and promotion of programming and activities related to academic growth, leadership, social connection, and cultural awareness.
The Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Director and other project personnel to successfully achieve the goals and objectives of the project and of the position.
Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include but not limited to: Essential:
Maintain a student caseload. Provide academic, psychosocial, career, graduate school, financial literacy counseling, coaching, and advising tailored to students who are first-generation college, demonstrate low income, and have documented disabilities.
Develop academic and personal success plans with program participants taking into consideration individualized student needs and specific TRIO services. Provide collaborative support to students to assess their personal needs with financial literacy, issues affecting academic performance, and life after graduation.
Assess participant academic performance. Teach academic skills and learning strategies as needed.
Design, coordinate, and facilitate academic, personal development, social enrichment, cultural, and leadership programming using a range of modalities (e.g., in-person and online).
Manage logistics of event planning. Collaborate with other campus entities as needed.
Promote TRIO programming to program participants. Create and manage social media profiles/pages for the program on key social media platforms.
Provide collaborative support to students to assess their personal needs with financial literacy, issues affecting academic performance, and life after graduation.
Establish and maintain liaisons with important campus resources to ensure required services are provided to TRIO project participants.
Maintain student files and electronic records in program data systems.
Participate in the planning and implementation of a recruitment and persistence plan; uphold equal access to project services for participants.
Attend periodic, relevant professional development opportunities.
Participate in college-wide initiatives.
Perform other duties and manage projects as assigned by Director, TRIO Student Support Services Program.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
Earned Bachelor's degree.
A minimum of two years' experience working in undergraduate student support (academic coaching, academic advising, counseling, admissions, student affairs).
Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities, first generation college students, and students from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.
Knowledge of implementing effective study strategies and academic skills.
Ability to work with sensitive and confidential student information.
Well-developed oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Basic competency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint). Ability to independently maintain record keeping.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Earned or in-progress Master's degree in a relevant field (Education, Behavioral and/or Social Science, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration).
Three or more years' experience working in undergraduate student support (academic coaching, academic advising, counseling, admissions, student affairs).
Prior experience advising undergraduate students (strongly preferred).
Experience working with a TRIO Program (or similar equal opportunity program).
Knowledge of college/university academic and financial assistance procedures.
Competency using Canva and/or other graphic design tools to design promotional materials.
Demonstrated abilities to establish and maintain a productive working relationship with multiple constituencies across campus.
Bi-lingual in English/Spanish.
Experience with facilitation and design of presentations, workshops and/or seminars.
Working knowledge of student management database systems such as BANNER, Degree Works, and BLUMEN.

Salary: For the majority of new employees, the minimum starting salary will apply. Specific salary for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining and state policies and procedures.
