Job Description:
To provide leadership and strategic initiatives that provide a vibrant, transformative educational experience for students. To serve as an advocate for students and leads efforts to provide a campus climate that fosters student success, personal development, wellbeing, and integrated student learning experiences that are informed by the University and CSJ mission and traditions.
To provide leadership, vision and administrative supervision for the Offices of Student Care, Student Conduct, Student Health Services, Student Counseling and Psychological Services, Residence Life and Student Housing. The position carries responsibilities for student crisis management, risk mitigation, learning outcomes assessment, continuous quality assurance, and strategic planning efforts which support services and programs related to student retention and persistence.
The Dean serves as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator and collaborates with several key offices, faculty, and leads or participates on committees at the Divisional and University level. The Dean is a member of the Student Affairs Senior Leadership Team and serves as support to the Vice President for Student Affairs.
Position Monthly Range: $9,583.34 - $11,250.00
Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leads initiatives to strengthen the student experience through retention efforts involving student care, living learning communities, student conduct's restorative justice efforts, and major initiatives, programs, and activities that support student wellbeing
Provides a presence on campus through regular formal and informal interactions with students, faculty, and staff. Some weekend, evening, and after-hours work is required
Provides leadership, supervision, direction, training, support, and program evaluation, for Offices of Student Conduct, Student Care, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Services, and Residence Life and Housing Services
Collaborates and partners with various departments across the university in order to provide implement a holistic student care model, co-curricular programs, and advance the student affairs assessment and research efforts
Chairs the Student Care Team, University Retention, and Strategic Planning Committees
Serves as a Deputy title IX Coordinator
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative Duties:
Serves as a member of the Vice President of Student Affairs (VPSA) Senior Management Team, and as such, assists the VPSA in implementing goal setting, strategic plans, assessment, evaluation, and professional development programs, budget development and monitoring, continuous improvement efforts within the Division of Student Affairs
Gathers, analyzes, and uses data to assess and develop new programs, systems and guidelines
Works closely with the VPSA on any task required for the efficient functioning of the Student Affairs Division
Serves as a member of University and Student Affairs committees, as needed
Represents the University through leadership in national and regional organizations
Requirements:
Knowledge:
Understanding of college student development and wellbeing, higher education or related administrative experience to include organizational development, strategic planning, financial management, crisis and risk management
An understanding of holistic approaches to student success and residence life and student housing, program evaluation, assessment, and research
An understanding of inclusive excellence as applied to student success, parents, and families
Knowledge of key concepts for student learning, mental and health related issues for undergraduate student populations
Knowledge of applicable local, federal, and state laws
Abilities and Skills:
The ability to take initiative and work independently on strategic planning; communicate and collaborate effectively; build teams, supervise and provide professional development/mentoring to student affairs professionals as well as students
Strong organizational and writing skills; and ability to present complex concepts to a range of individual skill levels
Strong analytic and critical thinking skills and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse population, both within and outside the University; to engage and present learning outcome assessment, research, and program evaluation data and analysis; report writing
Ability to make recommendations for policies and some development
Strong skills in areas of prioritizing in fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines despite frequent interruptions and change of focus
Competence in managing complex administrative processes effectively and efficiently
Strong crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills
Ability to maintain high ethical standards and maintain composure while responding proactively to issues
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive issues with a civil and respectful approach
Excellent interpersonal skills
Education:
Master of Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Psychology or related degree
Doctoral degree preferred
Experience:
Minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible experience in Higher Education or related field
Title IX administration experience.
Experience with supervision of or student housing, counseling, wellness, or health care services preferred
Experience with social or digital media/communications and learning management systems; Maxient; Student Housing and Client Relationship Management System for early alerts and retention preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
No Licenses or Certificates required
Other Requirements:
Background check required by policy.
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
