Job DescriptionThe Academic Building Operations Manager is a key senior member of the Academic Building Operations Management Team and will report to the Executive Director, Research Infrastructure & Operations, in the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (VPR). This individual is responsible for general building operational needs supporting the Higgins Building, 245 Beacon, and the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department in the Devlin Building. The main functions of the Academic Building Operations Manager will be supervising the operations team, developing and adhering to operational SOP's, communicating operational impact to building occupants, identifying space planning initiatives and working the project management team on infrastructure and renovation planning. This position will coordinate with facilities management, environmental health and safety, BCPD and science departments regarding safety, security, renovations and access control. Under the supervision of the Academic Building Operations Manager, the operations team provides support with access control shipping, receiving, and equipment installation and technical support.
Responsibilities will involve serving as the building Safety Officer and Export Liaison.
This position will involve supervision of building-specific operations staff members, and may require service on several committees and working groups.
The Academic Building Operations Manager will work together with academic department research, teaching, and administrative staff, and other members of the Office of the Provost/VPR to support building operational needs. This role is the key point of contact between Facilities and building/department stakeholders, and coordinates building renovation projects with Capital Project Management.
In addition, this position will serve as liaison to a variety of other operational units including Facilities Management, Planning and Construction, Student Services, Space Management, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), Emergency Management, and BCPD and may involve service on committees and working groups.
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $72,600 to $90,750; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
RequirementsThis position requires knowledge of building systems, basic trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC), safety, security, maintenance, renovation, and research and teaching technologies.
Significant experience with building operations management is required, preferably in an academic or research-based environment.
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline preferred.
Documented training in lab safety, including waste management, as well as shipping of dangerous, hazardous, or export controlled goods, preferred. If the position holder does not possess requisite training, this will be expected as a component of continuous professional development activities.
Night/Weekend presence on-site, in particular in response to emergencies, will be occasionally required.
Must be able to lift ~50 pounds.
