POSITION DETAILS
Assistant Dean for Student Achievement leads the School???s efforts to improve student retention, degree progress, and graduation; plays a central role in the implementation of the School???s academic policies, including policies on academic degree requirements and the adjudication of student complaints against instructional staff. This position reports to the Dean of Arts & Sciences. Specific duties include the following:
Implementation, management and coordination of academic unit advising.
o Assignment and calculation of workload credits for academic degree program undergraduate advising.
o Providing access to and training for Navigate and other advising related software.
o Maintaining accurate records of academic unit advisors??? contact information, workload credits, and access to advising software.
Development, implementation, and coordination of student success initiatives with offices in the division of Student Affairs.
o Maintaining accurate online postings of degree maps for all undergraduate programs of study.
o Coordinating the services and activities of primary (Student Affairs) and academic departmental/unit advisors including hosting joint professional development workshops, use and training on Navigate, and clarifying areas of responsibility.
Oversight and monitoring of undergraduate and graduate course scheduling to assure course offerings facilitate student degree progress and maximize the efficient use of available resources.
o Assuring academic departments comply with scheduling deadlines and understand scheduling practices and policies.
o In collaboration with academic department chairs and scheduling, developing and executing strategies to assure adequate availability of teaching labs and large lecture rooms for high demand courses.
o Assuring seats in introductory lab sciences courses meet student demand by regularly communicating with Admissions and Advising on anticipated course needs.
o When appropriate, coordinate with department chairs and administrators to adopt more efficient course scheduling and use available resources.
Management of the selection, scheduling, and assessment of the block of courses that comprise the first-year learning communities.
o Assuring the number of credits in each learning community block facilitate entering cohort???s registration for at least 15 credits per semester.
Monitoring student success in gateway courses and supporting faculty in the development and implementation of teaching initiatives that promote academic excellence and improves student degree progress.
o Initiating strategic discussions with faculty on students??? pass and completion rates in courses that are prerequisite to stem majors with the aim of developing strategies to improve student progress.
o Working with math and computer science faculty to adopt innovate pedagogical tools and just in time enhanced instructional modules aimed at remediating student deficiencies in mathematics that have delayed student degree progress and increased course DFW rates.
Implementing and interpreting the School???s and College???s academic policies including policies on academic degree requirements
o Advise students and academic departments on degree requirements and polices.
o Review requests from undergraduate students for exemption from or substitution of degree requirements and when appropriate advocate for students with Senate and other College departments.
o Advise academic department chairs and adjudicate student complaints against instructional staff.
In addition to these exclusive assignments, the Assistant Dean for Student Achievement consults with the Dean and Assistant Deans on matters related to curriculum, budget, personnel, faculty development, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven ability to effectively collaborate across the campus with various stakeholders
Experience in leadership roles specifically in an academic, higher education setting
??? Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently.
Experience managing large sets of data and using qualitative and quantitative data to make data driven decisions
Focus on strategic planning, and implementing successful programs that enhance student success
Staff supervision and leading a team
Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to deliver data succinctly and clearly

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary commensurate with education and experience ($130,000-$150,000).
