Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY The Area Director at Le Moyne College is a unique opportunity to work cross collaboratively within an integrated student activities and residence life office. The Area Director is responsible for the administration of a residential area housing with anywhere between 300-500 students. In addition to housing responsibilities, this staff member will hold a functional assignment within the Division of Student Development. These areas include campus activities, leadership programming, housing operations, RA supervision and multicultural affairs. This is a 12-month, live-in position, reporting to the Director of Campus Life and Leadership
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Job duties specific to this position: Community Development/Programming
Enhance the College's traditions and common, social experiences through programming.
Foster community development & student development in the context of a Catholic, Jesuit institution.
Promote and maintain a positive living environment conducive to study, rest and mutual respect.
Initiate contact and communication with residents on a regular basis.
Coordinate and implement Resident Advisor and Hall Council programming
Supervision/Advising
Train, supervise, schedule, support and evaluate a staff of five to eight Resident Advisors.
Plan and conduct weekly staff meetings and on-going supervision/performance meetings with RAs
Advise Hall Council and other student staff/clubs as assigned.
Student Conduct
Communicate and enforce College and residence hall policies and procedures.
Challenge, confront and follow-up on negative behavior and vandalism.
Assist in the adjudication of disciplinary cases. Maintain records concerning incidents and follow-up.
Communicate the rights and responsibilities of individuals as they relate to living in the community
Facilities
Coordinate the opening and closing of the residence halls after breaks and at the beginning of the semester.
Report and follow up on maintenance and housekeeping problems. Maintain accurate records.
Investigate damage, assign responsibility and coordinate health & safety checks in the halls
Assist in the evacuation of residence halls during fire drills and alarms.
Maintain a current, accurate roster of residents in assigned areas and assist with room changes.
Crisis & Conflict Management
Attend to the health and safety of residents in medical, psychological and other crisis situations.
Become knowledgeable of various campus resources and the college's emergency response plan.
Demonstrate accessibility and approachability to students and make appropriate referrals.
Show sensitivity and responsiveness to students' emotional, personal and academic needs.
Rotate campus "on-call" responsibilities with other Residence Life Staff members.
General Responsibilities
Requires flexibility in work schedule and will include some evening and occasional weekend responsibilities.
Participate in weekly Campus Life and Leadership staff meetings.
Interact with faculty, staff & students and in a cooperative, supportive manner.
Participate, and at times, assist in the presentation of Development and Training Programs.
May include participation in departmental and college committees.
12 paid holidays (In addition to paid time off the week between Christmas and New Years)

Hourly range: $18-$20/hr

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field (Master's in Higher Education Administration or related field preferred) with residence life experience.
Candidates should possess knowledge of Jesuit Education, along with strong administrative, communication, organization and computer skills.
Compensation includes a competitive salary, furnished apartment, and board plan during the academic year.
