Job Description
The Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, has an immediate need for Academic Coaches who will embed within the Nursing Program. We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated educators who exhibit a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.
The Achieving the Promise Academy, Montgomery College's academic coaching program, partners with the Nursing Program to help students succeed in rigorous coursework and clinical skills development. Academic coaches empower students to reframe challenges, build on their strengths, and target areas for growth by embedding within course sections and partnering with instructional faculty and Learning Skills Lab staff to support students.
In addition to helping students strengthen their understanding of critical and clinical concepts, embedded academic coaches use a variety of teaching, tutoring, and coaching strategies to help students develop the academic skills, knowledge, attitudes, and habits that contribute to success in the Nursing Program and in college more broadly. Academic coaches will primarily serve in person but will also utilize online tools to provide ongoing communication that nudges students to stay on track and access the resources they need to succeed. Coaches may hold individual coaching sessions outside of class/lab via Zoom.
During the academic year, the Academic Coach can earn up to 11.5 ESH (equivalent semester hours) per semester and no more than 23 ESH per academic year.
