Job Overview

The UC College of Medicine Office of Student Affairs is hiring two (2) full-time M1/M2 Sr Academic Advisors to provide support and advice to first- and second-year medical students (M1/M2 students) regarding their transition to medical school and success during the first two years, as well as contribute to the planning and execution of M1/M2 student events.
Essential Functions
Provide individualized and small/large group advising to medical students, primarily M1/M2 medical students, regarding acclimation to medical school, including academic success, personal wellbeing, and career development.
Schedule at least one individual meeting with each student in the assigned cohort during the first semester of the M1 year and again during the M2 year to discuss student goals and concerns. Make referrals as needed.
Collaborate with UCCOM Student Affairs faculty/staff and UCCOM specialty advisors to optimize student advising, especially in academic support, well-being, and specialty exploration.
Oversee student organizations and serve as point person for student leadership.
Collaborate with other LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) accredited medical schools and stay current with the pertinent literature to contribute to the development of advising tools. This may be listserv membership, regional/national conferences, or activities offered through the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) Group on Student Affairs.
Provide support to Student Affairs for all M1/M2 student events including M1 Orientation.
Oversee schedule of events for the M1 Orientation week
Update and manage UCCOM M1 Orientation website.
Attend and participate in class meetings pertaining to academic success, student wellbeing and career development.
Attend Student Affairs staff meetings regularly.
Collaborate on scholarly projects including regional/national presentations, posters and peer-reviewed publications pertaining to academic success, student wellbeing and career development.
Engage in continuous quality improvement processes and data analyses that provide guidance for short and long-term programmatic advising goals and result in achievement of measurable outcomes.
Assume other responsibilities at the request of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and/or the Director of Career Development.

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience
Three (3) years of academic advising and/or student success experience.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Master's degree in psychology, clinical counseling, or higher education administration.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in counseling or advising in higher education, preferably in a medical school or other professional degree granting institution.
Demonstrates evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills including demonstrated strong interpersonal skills when advising/counseling students on complex and confidential matters in a higher education institution.
Displays demonstrable experience in being able to work independently and collaboratively with others.
Demonstrates evidence of prioritizing tasks, multi-tasking, and strong organizational skills.
Displays evidence of a commitment to advising and developing students and staff.
