Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Advise students regarding semester and summer study abroad opportunities. This includes but is not limited to academic advising, program selection, application management in Terra Dotta, keeping program pages/materials updated, and visa application processing.
Organize, develop, coordinate, and distribute digital content in Moodle and video platforms for student and family audiences to facilitate pre-departure preparation and communications while abroad.
Oversee communications and outreach for the semester and exchange team, including print collateral, social media planning, and parent and family newsletters.
Manage a portfolio of programs including but not limited to Elon overseas semester programs; study abroad affiliate programs; and bilateral exchange programs.
Lead study abroad pre-departure orientation student and family sessions for assigned set of programs.
Collaborate with faculty and academic departments on program development and curriculum integration.
Consistently work on establishing a productive balance of student-Elon-parent-partner communications, addressing concerns in a compassionate manner.
Collaborate with other offices on campus to help facilitate conversations and preparation for students regarding their time abroad.
Collaborate with others in the office on strategic planning for global engagement, issues of risk management, curriculum integration and all aspects of successful study abroad programming and work on other projects as assigned.
Pursue professional development opportunities in support of role and duties, in alignment with University goals and to contribute to the field of international education.
Advise students with an understanding of Elon degree plans, the Elon Core Curriculum, and Elons global engagement student learning goals.
Provide emergency support for students while abroad, including on weekends and evenings for when programs are running.
Education and Experience Required qualifications: Bachelors degree; ability to advise students from diverse backgrounds on experiences of transition, adjustment, and navigation of a new environment. Strong writing/oral communication skills and attention to detail.
Preferred qualification: International study or off-campus, domestic study away experience, with top preference for experience in the UK, Ireland, or on a field-based program. One year of peer advising or other student employment in a study abroad office (part-time or full time). Or, one year of employment at a unit related to experiential learning (service, internship, research, leadership) at a four-year college/university. Or, experience working at a study abroad organization, or equivalent experience. Commitment to working with students from diverse and underrepresented populations in study abroad. Experience working with faculty.
