The Director of Academic Advisement and Retention plans and manages activities related to academic advisement, Guided Pathways to Student Success programming, and student retention and completion strategies on all campuses. They analyze the competitive landscape of higher education by developing innovative advisement strategies and optimizing the use of technology. The Director of Advisement and Retention provides effective leadership by supervising, leading, and inspiring a team that collaboratively work together to support all aspects of student affairs, academic advising, and retention.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
1. Provide direct leadership, supervision, and evaluation of all academic advisement staff.
2. Recruit, hire, and onboard advisement staff including full-time, part-time, and student employees.
3. Develop and oversee training and professional development for advisement staff and campus stakeholders.
4. Serve as liaison with academic divisions for advisement and retention programming.
5. Manage and oversee software including Student Planning, AdvisorTrac and Early Alert System.
6. Represent the advisement center on appropriate college committees.
7. Direct and lead staff in the development and implementation of college wide retention strategies, including Early Alert software.
8. Design, implement and oversee success and retention strategies for student cohorts such as an early alert system.
9. Assess, evaluate, analyze and report on student advisement services and retention.
10. Oversee advisement information sessions for students.
11. Collaborate with all campus stakeholders to support advisement.
12. Participate in campus-wide events such as Commencement, New Student Orientation, and Open Houses.
13. Collaborate with transfer and career advisors.
14. Develop Guided Pathways to Student Success programming procedures to be implemented at all campuses.
15. Manage assigned budgets.
16. Comply with all safety, fire, and smoking regulations.
17. Complete all mandatory compliance and safety training as scheduled by Human Resources.
18. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS
1. Master's degree required.
2. Five years of experience in advisement or higher education.
3. Demonstrate progressive supervision.
4. Outstanding interpersonal, leadership, supervisory and training skills.
5. Experience in the management of academic advisement.
6. Experience in budget management.
7. Knowledge of Guided Pathways to Student Success programming preferred.
8. Ability to work as a part of a cross-functional team in an innovative, fast-paced environment.
9. Strong written and oral communication skills.
10. Demonstrated record of leading a customer-oriented staff.
11. Strong technical skills and familiarity with Ellucian Colleague/Student Planning, Microsoft Office, and retention software.
