Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School (HIES) is seeking an Associate Director of College Counseling. HIES is the largest Episcopal Parish day school in the country, offering a fully accredited college preparatory program for students age three through 12th grade, with a graduating class of approximately 135 – 155 students per year.
The Associate Director will work with an experienced college counseling team that includes the Director of College Counseling, Associate Directors of College Counseling and the Registrar/College Counseling Assistant to provide a comprehensive college counseling program to Upper School Families. This is a 10-month (academic year) full time position. Some travel is required as well as occasional evening and weekend commitments. Anticipated Start Date: August 1, 2023.
Reports to: Director of College Counseling
Responsibilities
• Advise and support a group of juniors, seniors, and their families throughout the entire college search and application process; host student and family advising meetings and write highly individualized letters of recommendations in support of students
• Work collaboratively as a member of the college counseling team, including assisting with and planning various programs and events such as grade-level college programs, case studies, admission panels, book clubs, and other college counseling and school events
• Contribute strategic thinking in reviewing and revising strategies to deliver the best possible college counseling program to HIES students and parents
• Develop and maintain relationships with college admissions professionals, including hosting college representatives at HIES; stay current in the college admissions profession by visiting colleges and participating in conferences and workshops
• Prepare regular communications to families, students, teachers, and other school constituents
• Collaborate with faculty and different HIES departments to support students; contribute to the school community at large
• Fulfills additional duties as assigned
Educational and Other Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or higher (master’s degree preferred) and at least 5 years in selective college admissions and/or previous experience as a college counselor working with high school students
• Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills to support working in a fast-paced environment
• Technological proficiency and willingness to learn new platforms for college counseling and the school
• A commitment to value diverse dimensions of identity as sources of strength that deepen our common humanity, and enhance the intellectual, social, spiritual, and moral development of all students
• Successful completion of pre-employment background screening, drug testing and safety training
