Eastern Iowa Community Colleges is looking to fill a position for a Mental Health Counselor. This position will serve the students of the EICC district at Scott Community College.

Position Summary:
The Mental Health Counselor will provide counseling services to students in a manner that demonstrates commitment to the Community College mission and its diverse population. This position will provide a comprehensive, student-centered counseling approach. In addition this position will provide development and educational training for all students, faculty, and staff.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide developmental and educational support to students in the form of short-term personal counseling, group counseling, and therapy as needed.
Provide education for students, faculty, and staff on a variety of topics including but not limited to, relationships, sexual violence, alcohol and substance abuse, and self-harm.
Conduct intake interviews.
Maintain accurate records and proper confidential files and reporting for counseling services.
Assess effectiveness of services through program evaluation.
Provide crisis intervention and counseling services to students undergoing anxiety, stress, grief and/or other intense emotions surrounding a traumatic event.
Assign follow-up to appropriate community mental health agency.
Provide information and referral support services to students, faculty, and/or staff as needed.
Serve as an active member of the Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation Team (C.A.R.E Team).
Participate in state and community-wide initiatives to address mental health.
Establish strong community partnerships in order to provide better services and opportunities for students.
Participate on various in-house teams/cross-functional work groups chartered with the responsibility for various special projects intended to add value, increase efficiency, enhance effectiveness, and improve services, etc. of the College.
Occasional evening and weekend activities may be required.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Requirements:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Clinical Psychology. Two years of experience in counseling. Licensed or ability to obtain licensure in the state of Iowa. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population as well as the entire campus community is required. The person must be able to work independently and use discretion in handling information generated in this position.
